Hey fellas,

I don't want to start a war but I am looking for a little real world information.  I am pondering adding a new caliber to my AR world.  I already have everything short of a barrel for another upper.  I have been looking at the 6.5 Grendel, but it requires it's own brass and different mags.  I was hoping to keep things as simple as possible so I am leaning away from that.  I have a ton of .223 and 5.56 brass so I would like to be able to use that as a base for the new round.  That has me looking at the 6x45 and the 25-223.  My main uses would be ground squirrels, rockchucks (ground hogs for those of you back east), coyotes and some steel targets.  I want to be able to reach 500yards with plenty of energy.  I will be using bullets is the 75-87 gr range.  I have other rigs that I use for lighter and heavier bullets.  I am thinking a 20" barrel will be what I go with for the extra speed.  So I am looking for a little input and some real world velocity numbers for bullets in that weight range from both of these rounds so I can run some ballistics on them.  I am leaning toward the 6x45 because I already own a .243 so I have bullets and the dies are commercially available. However, from what I have gathered from reading numerous threads in multiple forums (besides a huge headache and lots of lost time) it seems that the 25-223 can get better velocity out of the same weight bullet. I know that the BC is lower in this scenario but that why I am looking for some velocity numbers so I can run them through the ballistic calc.  I would appreciate some feedback from those of you who have actually used these cartridges.  Thanks!
