I purchased a used 7.62x39 AR recently for 600.00 with 6 mags and a pelican case. It is a RRA Lower that is marked 5.56cal, and I don't know what brand upper, bolt, or barrel. It shoots amazing though, I've put well over 4k rounds of russian Tulammo steel case through it without a single FTF or FTE. After my last trip to the range I broke it down to clean it and found the roll pin in the buffer had worked it self out at least 1/8 inch and obviously made contact with the spring and mangled the end of it and i cant get the pin out of the buffer. So, I decided to just get a new buffer.

From what I have been reading on multiple forums people recommend a heavier buffer for this caliber. But, being curious, I weighed my buffer on a digital scale. Mine weighs exactly 3 ounces. What do you guys recommend I do? I cant find a 3 ounce buffer anywhere...

EDIT: I found a 3oz buffer on amazon for 10.99 made by Tactical Intent. Should I give it a try?

3oz is carbine.

That'll work fine.

I used carbine buffers for 762x39 uppers until I started suppressing one.  Then I began using an H2.

CAR buffer will work just fine for your gun.

Standard carbine buffers worked fine in both of my x39 ARs (YHM carbine and Armalite mid-length).  Eventually went to Spikes ST-T2 buffers in both.

Did you notice that much of a difference going to the ST-T2 buffer?

No.  The only reason for installing the ST-T2s was because I already had them and wanted to put them to use.

I have a midlength 16" SS Stoner barrel and bolt from midway. I initially used standard carbine spring and H2 buffer. 350 rounds Wolfe and Herters. 100% function using ASC mags. Threw empties about 1:00. Went to Wolfe extra power spring and H2. 300 rounds of Wolfe. 100% function using ASC mags. Throwing empties about 3:30. I've now put about 650 rounds and not had a single malfunction. But upon cleaning both times out I had to replace the Gas rings on the bolt. They had no tension left and the bolt was sloppy in the carrier. No problems. Just sloppy.

As of now I have just over 1000 rounds through this thing and haven't had a single problem. 100% reliable. Also my casings are ejecting at about the 4:30 position, lucky for the person next to me at the range. I always feel bad when every casing hits the person next to me. .

I use a carbine buffer in my build. Actually, an H buffer caused short stroking.
