OK, so I know it is fairly common to run multiple uppers on the same lower but my questions are:

I was wanting to run a 6.5 Grendel Upper on the same lower that I use for my .223/5.56.  Will the different calibers make a difference in anything?  Also, I was hoping to have a mid or rifle length gas system on the 6.5 Upper, so is that going to cause issues with the buffer tube, spring, etc. that I currently use on my lower with the carbine length gas system?  Pros and Cons perhaps?

Much thanks!

No.  The lower does not care what gas system or caliber your shooting.  Everything is the same.  A 6.5 Grendel upper will only use a different barrel, bolt and magazine.  You can even use the same bolt carrier.  You can buy an assembled Grendel upper or build one and just drop it in and change the bolt.   Simple and lots of folks do it.  The problem for me is lone uppers get lonely and need lowers to be happy so they end up growing into new rifles.

Thanks for the reply.  I thought the buffer tube and/or spring had to be different depending on the length of the gas system you chose.

You MAY find that a different buffer weight will work better with one upper over another.  In addition to a different recoil impulse, a different caliber (or even different barrel of the same caliber) could have a different gas port size and pressure, giving more (or less) carrier velocity.  Different weighted buffers are used to adjust this.   So if a carbine has a snappy recoil, a heavier buffer can be used to slow down the cyclic time and make it feel softer.
