Ok so I have been lurking and reading for a while and the wife finally gave me the OK to go big bore, or as she says "Buy some stupid gun part". Originally I was interested in the .50 Beowulf, then after reading thought about the .458 SOCOM since you can use all AR mags which isn't  necessarily the case with the .50. Here recently I had decided to go with the .300 Blackout but it seems like it's not worth it unless your going SBR with a can. So my question is which is the best for just shooting. I have a purpose built 5.56 that I will put the BB upper on, I love my 5.56 it is absolutely perfect for what I use it for and I know and love everything about it, all I really want the BB upper is to have it. I have no need for it, I won't hunt with it, I never PLAN on shooting a car engine with it and I'm not going SBR and I don't ever plan on running a can. I like the .458 because there seems to be better ammo availability and you can run all AR mags, I like the Blackout because its the same size case as the 5.56 just a bigger round, so all that is different is the barrel and I can actually run 30 rounds in a 30 round mag, and of course I like the .50 because its a .50. Most posts seem to be about hunting, or reloading or building your own. I don't have time or skill to build an AR right not, I don't reload and I wouldn't ever use it for hunting. I'm in the military and I do private security on the side, I do use my AR for some of my security jobs, I haven't had to shoot someone yet and hopefully I never will but other than shooting paper that is probably the only other think I would use the BB upper for.

Shooting a Big Bore AR is just a truly cool enjoyable activity, They are at (or very nearly) MOA fire arms
and they use completely stock lowers and mags.
Recoil is on par with a 20 gauge shotgun.
If you Reload you can truly enjoy your .458 SOCOM.

I have a Beowulf and 300 BLK. Both make holes in paper very well. Personally, the true big bores like the Beowulf and Socom are best if you reload as ammo availability is sporadic. I've been seeing lots of 300 available in local gun stores.
My 50 makes me smile real big every time I take it out and draws a crowd.

you cant use all 5.56 mags the p-mags fail rather miserably unless you do a bunch of file or dremel work . my experience is for a ploymer mag its hard to beat the lancer l-5 or advanced warfighter when using ar variants .
I have a 458 socom and a 300 blackout , the blackout is alot cheaper to shoot for sure but its just hard to argue with the brute force the 458 socom has .
I have noticed that 50 beowulf ammo is starting to show up in larger quanities and at big box stores like cabelas and at my local gun shop . If you dont reload then the beowulf or 450 bushmaster might be a better option .
I reload everything I own except for 22lr so my prefrence of all is the 458 socom.

I have owned both a 458 and a 450, if you shoot alot and reload then it is 458, if you shoot alot and do not reload then 450, if you wont be shooting it alot then I would lean towards the 458.

I own a .50B. It is great fun to shoot. I use regular ar15 mags and have never had a problem. I have it sighted in @ 100yds for the 400gr Hawk round.

I would also recommend the 450 Bushmaster, especially since you said that you don't plan to reload.  The rifle I have is extremely accurate with the factory Hornady ammo.
