I just bought a DPMS REPR from grabagun. This thread is for me to chronicle (essentially) blog about the purchase, deciding on an optic, and taking it out to the desert to sight it in and provide a range report.
I am brand new to the .308 side of things so I'm excited about learning about the round and what it's capable of. I intend to use the rifle from 100 yards out to 1000 yards, so I'd love to get some recommendations on scopes (other than $$$ leopolds) that will do the job. I do want to spend money on my optic, but I just don't want it to be the same as the cost of the REPR itself =). |

I would look into a Nightforce for that rifle. Get Mil/Mil or MOA/MOA so your reticle matches your turrets.
You have enough internal travel on the NF that you won't need a canted riser for 1,000 yards and the glass and handfitting is excellent. You won't be disappointed in a Nightforce. If you are on a budget, the fixed power Super Snipers are a good buy. They retain their value well if you decide to upgrade too. There are some great tactical middle ground scopes in the $500-1200 range like Burris, Weaver Tactical, Super Sniper HD, Vortex Viper, etc. IOR, Zeiss (Conquest) and Meopta also have super glass in the mid price range, but they won't have the tactical features like internal travel and target knobs, but the BDC reticles are usually good to 600-800 depending on your load. Leupold would not make my short list personally - they are good extremely durable scopes, but in the past have been over priced for the glass quality and features you get. Lastly play with some first focal plane scopes and see if you like them over the second focal plane. On certain powers, the FFP reticle may be too thick or thin for your ideal use, but the holdover doesn't require a set power. Remember that until you use good glass, you won't know what you are missing out on. |
