I've got a 16" S&W 5.45 upper. Any problems using this on a lower with an A1 stock, buffer spring and rifle buffer?

No issues in that configuration.
Provided that everything is in good working order, it is one of the most reliable lower configurations.

I would also get a heavier trigger spring. I had inconsistent primer ignition until I got a stiffer spring, since then, it has been 100%.

Get some PHD ammo!

I would agree with the heavier springs. I recently grabbed up a S&W M&P 5.45 complete carbine the factory springs they installed are huge. Clearly they were thinking of the Harder Russian primers when they built the lower.

Oh I know all about the trigger spring and also about installing it backwards too. I had the upper on a different lower with an M4 stock but I was using an H3 buffer. I was just concerned about the rifle length buffer and spring on the carbine length gas system.
