As I look into getting a 7.62 AR next year after I return from the lovely mountains somewhere between Turkmenistan and Pakistan I find myself somewhat lost as I have zero experience withe 7.62 versions of this platform. So my questions for those with experience with these rifles...

1) One of the makers I'm looking at is LaRue, what is the practical difference between their OBR, the PredatAR, and upcoming PredatOBR rifles?

2) Another, less expensive option I'm looking at is the DPMS REPR... For practical reliability and accuracy out to 800 meters, how does the DPMS stack up against the LaRue rifles?

3) Is LaRue worth the $1000 difference over the DPMS?

4) Is there anyone else I should be giving serious consideration too?

Just my opinion here, someone will be along to refute me.

LaRue makes great stuff and I have several things that he makes, can't go wrong. You may have to wait or delivery.

1)Too many variables for me go to thier web site and print off specs, and compare in detail. OBR is heavier as I recall, due to a heavier barrel mostly. Depending on the model barrel length stocks may change, OBR and Predators have different forearms.

2)DPMS makes good stuff and thier REPR will out shoot most all of the basement dwellers here.

3)A Toyota Carolla will get you from A to B; but if you have the money I would go from A to B in a Ferrari.

4)If you are looking at LaRue type prices, LWRCI, GA Precision, LMT, Knights Armament, many others.

When comparing think about what you want and if you will need/want to change parts out. Geissele are spendy most are $240 ish.
Does it come with BUIS? Those will cost you also.
Will you want to change out the stock? That can cost you $100-250.
Availability, timeline for delivery?
I would be looking at one that only take P-mags. They cost less than $20.00, AR-10 mags cost $40-60. Buy 10 of each it is $200 versus $400-600. That $200-400 difference can buy ammo or other accessories.

I had just finally decided that I would build a Mega MA-TEN monolithic rounded forearm but my decision came two days after they quit selling them. I think I will build a MA-TEN and free float hand guards.

1. Main differences are barrel profile (OBR heavy, predOBR and Pred lighter), rail (OBR higher w/20MOA cant, predOBR and pred lower and flat), gas system (OBR and PredOBR select gas system, pred no select gas system) and furniture.
2. I've had good luck with DPMS but I'd not say it compares with the quality of the Larue. That said, I believe a DPMS based gun (not factory) can be built that is the equal to Larue in accuracy and reliability for far less $$$.
3. I'd say the DPMS isnt worth $1000 less than the larue. I wouldnt pay more than $1000 for any DPMS/Freedom Group 308 AR, because I'd only use it as a base rifle.

You might want to consider the Rock river LAR-8 line.... I have the Predator model (20" lightweight bbl) with a Timney trigger.  Dead reliable for me and consistently under one MOA w/178 Hornaday AMax.  Takes inch or metric pattern FAL mags that today are about $20/each...more than PMags and less than SR25/DPMS pattern, and .... if you're masochistic, you can get (and lug around) 30-round FAL or Bren mags as well.

Minute of man at 800 is easily doable if you can read wind.

Costs a little bit more (?) than the DPMS (like $1500 these days) but mucho less than the LaRue and VERY much less than a LWRC.

A friend of mine has the LWRC and another has a Primary Weapons System 308, and both are about 1/2 MOA rifles, both are also piston-operated , and are expensive...not sure if they are worth twice more than a RRA, but if I had the $$ I'd consider either (the LWRC is noticibly heavier than the PWS, and my RRA with a USO 1.8-10 scope and loaded 20-round mag is something like 11#).

Just FYI

Look at the new ArmaLite AR-10A and soon to be released Noveske based on the SR-25 magazine.

DPMS takes a few short cuts to keep the price down but they still shoot well.  Every 7.62 AR I've shot has been a good shooter.  Noticeable differences in precised recoil.

I have a Noveske N6 that uses the M14 mags, I wouldn't mind having a LMT MWS.  The LMT has more in theater time than all the others combined.  The Brits seem to be pleased with them.

If you have the money and time Go Larue

Since your over there, you have the time.
Money I don't know

bottom line, they'll toss you a mil discount
if you don't like the weapon, you can sell it here or on gun broker and even make a couple of bucks

OBR is the most coveted rifle in this price range, and probably the only one you can buy check it out for yourself and pass off for what you paid for it or more

Buy yourself something nice since your saving on beer, and girls over there

P.S   ALTHOUGH one interpreter told me you can buy a wife that looks like a model over there for bout 15k
you'll have to convert your green backs into camels though

and for gods sake don't don't teach her english other than yes and no
