I'm putting together a 7.62 X 39 upper for a friend and was wondering. Does he need to change the buffer and or spring when going from the 223 upper to the 7.62 X 39 upper?
       Thanks for any help.

No, I used to share my 7.62x39 upper and 5.56 upper with the same lower running a standard carbine buffer & spring, no problems at all. If he's having issues with light strikes on ammo with hard or recessed primers an enhanced firing pin will usually fix that, no need to change the hammer spring or mod the lower most of the time.

Carbine buffer works fine for me with both of my x39 ARs.

Hey guys. Thanks for the info. I just don't want this guy to have any issues at all. I've always built either 223 or 308 with no issues but was unsure about swaping uppers of different calibers. Thanks again for the help.

If you haven't bought the BCG already, I'd consider going with one from ARP or Model 1; both will help eliminate possible issues.
