My cousin is wanting to get a 450 bushmaster setup for deer hunting. I have good experience with the 5.56 ar15 but no experience with the 450. He asked me to research for him a good high quality set up... including trigger, optics, mounts, lowers, stock, etc... he doesn't want to go cheap but doesn't necessarily want best that money can buy...
Will be used only for deer hunting probably shot less than 200 rounds a year total. What are your guy's recommendations... I don't have time to do a vast search for him so if you can narrow it down for me would be very greatful. Thanks |

The www.450bushmaster.net forums have been down for several weeks and should be up soon, BUT that will be a great place to start..
I have a 16" 450 that I love.. The gun is VERY accurate - even for me hehe - 75 yrs, off a bag, 3 shots cloverleaf all touching.. Sighted in correctly it will be +/- 3" out to 200 yds... It kicks like a shotgun but is fun to shoot.. You can buy an upper and use it on any lower - you dont have to replace anything.. The biggest issues is that there arent many factory loads for it - but the Hornady 250 gr FTX is good.. If you reload the 450b forum has a reloading section where ppl are posting their loads.. I've got the 16" bushmaster, you gain around 200 fps with the 20. Some of the guys on the 450 forum are loading for speed, and some are loading heavy. The Hornady factory ammo rocks, duh. Mine shoots around an inch at 100, but you have to remember it's a half inch bullet. The 450 forum is back up, lots of info there.
Here's a video a buddy took of mine at the range, it's a thumper. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1P5IdAyFpw |
