I'm working with reloads here.

I have an issue of first rounds sometimes not wanting to seat into the chamber all the time.  I also have the issue when this happens and even when they do seat that I can't eject a live round.

I'll have to pull on the charging handle and tap it with a mallet to get the round to extract.  If I've done this a couple times then usually the round to extract by hand ok.  This doesn't happen all the time but most of the time on the first round of the day.

As far as firing then everything seems to feed fine, I haven't tried to manually extract a live round during a course of fire.

These are full length sized and trimmed, the chamber is cleaned, the bolt is cleaned and lubed.  I don't have a single issue with some commercial 150 gr hornady that I have sitting around.

This is once fired LC brass, after sizing I've measured the brass and all the dimensions seem to be within thousandths of what they should be as close as I can tell.  I used a marker on the bullet to see if somehow it was jamming into the lands but that doesn't seem to be the case.  I do have scratches on the bullets but I'm guessing that is the extractor pulling it a bit to the side on extraction.

Opinions and advice on what I should be checking would be greatly appreciated.  I've been reloading for about a year so I'm not an expert.  I don't have any issues whatsoever with my R-15 using LC brass.

This issue is with my oracle LR308.  Could I have a tight chamber for some reason?  It's chambered for 7.62.

Help.

lr,s are notorious for chamber issues when new.
I went round and round with mine.
being sure your cases are sized correctly. some may advise you to use a small base die.
What i found with mine was infact a tight dirty chamber that needed lapping/polishing.
Im a 35yr Ford tech and have access to some real nice tooling. One being is a Snap-On HD bore scope. Thats how I was able to see excatly what was wrong with my chamber. I dont own a match chamber reamer so I oppted to just carfully lap my chamber. i was able to clean it out.
i have not a lick of problems sinse..and with some load work-up, Ive been able to make my favorite tack driver

if the factory ammo chambers and functions fine then its a good bet that its your reloads.
take a fresh reload with as clean of brass as you have.
chamber and extract.
then look over the round for marks to see where it is binding.
I ran into a similar issue a long time ago with a 6.8.
turned out when I was seating a particular bullet with a lite crimp the die was crimping before it
was seated all the way, slightly buldging the case neck.

It turns out that adjusting my die just a little more solved my problem.

What I still don't understand is how when my die was touching the base with 1/4 gap between the handle and the press ( Lee hand press) how moving it to a 1/2" and the die is already touching the base........how it can compress more inside somewhere??

When you say base, do you mean shell holder ?

It's possible that the set up looked like it was stroking full length, but as it turns out, it was not.

Small base sizer die is a good idea for self loaders like the AR.
Takes the brass down a little more than a standard full-length re-sizer die.

Yes I meant the shell holder.

When the die was touching the holder I still had a 1/4" of space left that I had to push the handle to touch it's contact point.  Now I have 1/2" of extra handle travel that I have to fight to make it touch.

I don't understand it....but it works so I'll continue until it breaks something.

Again, I don't have any issues with the R-15 but do with the 308. oh well.

What you are describing is the brass shoulder not quite pushed back far enough.
