I have a 300 blackout that will cycle supersonic ammunition. When i fire subsonic it will eject the old shell but doesnt grab a new one. I do not have a can on it yet. still waiting for my paperwork. It is a 16in barrel with a carbine length gas system. I have a standard weight buffer in it. Would changing the buffer weight help me? some have told me to give it a try but i thought a heavier buffer would not help the bolt cycle. any suggestions will help. Thanks

| I think the carbine length gas system is your problem. My 300BLK barrel uses a pistol gas system and runs subsonic's just fine with and without a suppressor. You really only want to run subsonics with a suppressor anyways. I'm sure adding a suppressor will give more back pressure to cycle the weapon with subsonic's. |

Just for kicks....what subsonic ammo are you shooting? I worked up some (supersonic) ammo, and started lowish on the powder range. I went from not picking up the next round, picking up the next round and not locking open to full lock open on empty mag over the range of powder weight I was using. There was only 1.5 grains of H110 across that difference.

The question is why you want to shoot Subs in an unsurpressed 16" gun? Either surpress the rifle or shoot supers! It will not reliably shoot subs cause One you don't have enough Pressure!!! You need atleast 40000psi to Cycle an AR reliably especially a Carbine gassed system. Use the proper ammo for the gun Subs are for surpressed firearms ,serve no useful purpose except in surpressed fireams. If you want to use heavy bullets -put enough powder in them to cycle your firearm.

For the most part subsonic ammo tends to be a little more expensive, so it seems like a waste to shoot it unsuppressed. |
| I have the CMMG 16" barrel with carbine gas. I can shoot subs and supers with out any cycle problems. If you are wanting to shoot subs un suppressed and are having the cycle issue it could just be the gasport size. I would contact the barrel MFG and see what their specs were on the barrel you are using. Hope this helps. |

Yep the easy way is just to call or fiddle fuck around with different buffers and springs to see if you can get it to run. Drilling out the port would be the last thing I would want to do but would without hesitation if warrantry of any would be of concern. |

I was just playing with a new toy and trying to get it to function on subsonics without a can. Like a said I do have a can on the way. I could not find the diameter of the gas port hole. It is a wilson combat barrel. I can't get my handloads of 9grs of Lil'Gun to cycle with a 220 Gr bullet but when I shoot PNW weapons Technology 220gr subsonics it will cycle. As I seat the bullet deaper the speed increases i assume from pressure increasing but then the gun will not even eject the shell. Just something i was playing with i think that i will not have any problem once i get a can on it

Went to the range today, I have a 16" barrel, Had ejection problems found out it was the bolt that came with the barrel. Shot some subs just to see what it would do. it would shoot and eject fine, but wouldn't pickup the next round. I figure if I opened up the gas port to .106 it may work but I don't plan on using subs anyway.
I just wanted to say if anyone is experencing FTE probs it could be ur bolt's ejector. Mine actually looked different that the one in my other AR that I scabbed it from. |
