Okay, so I have never built an AR, but want to explore options other than 5.56
What calibers work with which lowers, or does it matter at all? |

The AR15 lower will work with calibers like 6.8 spc, 6.5 grendel, 6x45, 300blk, 7.62x39, 7.62x40wt, 30 remington AR. (I am sure there are a lot more)
Longer cartridges require an AR10 or LR308 size lower. Cartidges like .308, .260 rem, 6.5 creedmoor. Lowers in this size are not interchangeable between all manufacturers because there are a few different patterns. |

Makes the ready to go uppers much more attractive The limiting factors are magazine length and cartridge diameter. .473 rim diameter seems to be the upper limit although a few go even bigger with mixed results. |
