Hey, I've got a DMPS .308 24" barrel AR with a good optic on it, but the stock trigger absolutely sucks. (That's not a generalized attack on DPMS or anything, it is a statement of fact - it's heavy as hell, and isnt smooth at all. It grinds here, catches/sticks a bit there, and sucks all over).
What lighter, smoother trigger would you guys swap in there to improve it? As it is, it is killing me, and I usually can't get my groups below 1-1.5 MOA. Thanks. |
| 5 replies, 5 opinions......all seem straight forward to me. I just wanted to throw out my new favorite, Wilson combat TTU. 2 pins and its in. Just another to consider. I think it was stickmans review where he whored out the ttu to his buddies that got me interested and i haveno reservations. Let us know what you choose. Good luck! |

Yep, that pretty much describes the stock LR308 trigger. Grind, crunch, drag. Put in a JP, clean it right up. No recommendation for a 2-stage, a single stage is better for my shooting. I hear the Geissele is nice, but spendy. |

Look up Bill Springfield triggers. Money saved can go towards ammo. WD How do you like that trigger? I'm certainly willing to give it a try if I can get similar performance and save some money... thanks I looked at those - they looked alright, but another guy just posted in the AR Variants section about fire control options, and I think the trigger work "from a guy in Co" that he refers to is the same thing, which he reports problems with. Link to Thread: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_121/549044_Fire_Control_System_Recommendations.html That is, more or less, my rifle. |

I did some checking around and have received mixed reviews on this gents work...I think I'll just play it safe and spend the money. |

Now its just a question of "which somewhat expensive trigger do I want?" |

You are right in your previous assumptions.
308ar.com has some choices... The bottom line is bucks... geissele has a stellar reputation and you pay for it... I put in a Timney and it works great for $180 (look around for deals). The JP needs massaging and that doesn't work for some. Wilson is also good. RRA also has some followers in the 308 but I don't have info on them in this respect. If you plan on shooting this for years to come, get the best you can afford and cry once. Good luck. |

For a cheap upgrade you can do a few things to the factory FCG. This is a link to the sticky "trigger work" in the build it section. This will not be as good as an aftermarket trigger but for about $12.00 you cant beat it.

| I have a Geissele SSA-E in my POF P-308 and it is a HUGE upgrade over the stock AR trigger it came with (mine didn't have the trigger they normally come with, previous owner ordered it specifically without). I know the pain of the milspec trigger. You might think the SSA-E is too light in pull, but it's not at all. If you're into 2 stage triggers I highly recommend it. |
| Geissele if you want 2-stage, JP or Mega if you want single-stage. Even the el cheepo Geissele SSA for $170 is an amazing trigger, which is what I have in my .260 Rem AR10. That second stage is phenomenal, since they EDM cut their trigger sears and parts. You can't beat the at level of smoothness on a traditional MIM'd trigger, not with a lifetime of polishing or tweaking. Everyone that has another type of 2-stage trigger that has felt my Geissele immediately agrees that there is a superior and noticeable difference with the Geissele, and I have the heavy one! |
| I love the plug-n-play nature of the Wilson Combat TTU 2 stage, makes it very simple to install and I'm up and shooting in 10 minutes! Its non-adjustable and comes with a very crisp 4lb, creep free, glass rod break trigger pull. Non-adjustable means I never have to worry about adjusting it or falling out of spec and is ultra-reliable. |
