I had one, it wasn't for me.
It was not much more exciting than a .22 and way more expensive to shoot.
I do like my FN FiveseveN though!

Forgot to add, looking into this primarily for the wife, seeing it is low recoil.

That should be a fun toy for her. If you pull the guts out of a mag and put it in the magwell it will work as a brass catcher.

If you buy in bulk you can get 2000rds for about $800. Not too much different than .223. My brother has a FiveseveN and a AR57. They are both pretty cool but I would only buy the FiveseveN for myself. I actually have his 5.7 pistol now.

I've got one. It's the 11" upper on my SP1 SBR lower. It's a nail driver up to about 50yds. I have it sighted in at 25yds. The only down fall it the ammo cost around here. I could buy in bulk but having over $700 to blow is not easy these days.

The PS90 is almost good enough for me to look at getting, if it were cheaper.  An AR57 - no thanks.  I would much prefer have a 5.56 weapon.

It'd be fun to use as a range toy, but for the price I'd rather have a M&P15-22.

I looked at one for about 30 seconds till I didn't find a way to mount a scope, then bought a 5.45 and put all the extra money into more mags.

I looked at one for the exact reason you are, something light recoiling for my wife.  I liked the 50 round mag, the low recoil, and the ergos of an AR.

Once I heard that the uppers were a bit heavy and I looked at the terminal ballistics of the round I moved on.  As a toy it would be alot of fun.  From a terminal standpoint the 5.7 is just not good enough.  It won't drive good .224" projectiles fast enough to reach their performance range.  The ones it will drive fast enough are varmint bullets and will underpenetrate.  5.56 really is the minimum acceptable performer for defensive use, which was my primary goal, so I focused on making a 5.56 AR light enough for her to handle well and I'm now looking at adding a Battlecomp, which is known for reducing recoil without a substantial increase in blast and noise.

The cost of ammo wasn't my primary concern with the 5.7 but it is a down side as well.
