Im looking into getting a muzzle brk install in my 24" LR308.
I have a shooting buddy who had a Bennie Cooley from JP Enterprise break installed in his LR ,darn sure works great but gezz, there pricey. Do you guys know of any other 5/8 X 24 muzzle brks out there |

There are plenty, but for the most part you'll find yourself around the 100 dollar pricepoint. I only researched two heavily, the JP Cooley brake you mentioned and the SJC Titan- wound up going with the Titan.
Surefire, PWS PRC...can't remember many else off the top of my head. I'm sure others will chime in. |

I have a PWS FSC-30. It is a flash suppressing comp. It really seems to reduce the recoil.

When it comes to my LR-308, I've spent a ridiculous amount of money on the rifle just on gunsmithing and replacement parts. I have about half the components for a second rifle (which I'll do soon).
The JP compensator ran around $100, which wasn't significantly more expensive than other compensators. It's also one of the best available (if not the best). When you're spending $1,000+ on your rifle to begin with, an extra $40 or $50 for a top-notch compensator probably shouldn't matter. |
I went with the DPMS Miculek brake - by far the most reasonably priced, and it works very well:

| I did quite a bit of research and wound up with the SJC. I can't really comment on the others. I have two things to say about the SJC, however. (1)My 308 kicks less than my 5.56. (2) I went to a shoot not long ago where guys were firing everything from 22lr to 50bmg. With the exception of the 50bmg, my 308 definately had the largest signature there. I could hear people commenting about it every time I squeezed the trigger. One guy walked up and asked me if it was a 338. |

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k252/chrisq_01/1305726013.jpg I use a Saiga AK-74 style brake on my 7.62x39mm AR-15. It makes a hell of a difference in recoil when compared to a flash hider like the AAC blackout I had on it. ETA: it is a 5/8-24 thread. nice barrel...i like the painted lower lettering |
