I've asked on Sniper's Hide as well, but here it goes. Finishing up my 308 build. When everything comes together, there is a gap about 1/2 in between the gas block and the handguard. I've had a small gap before, but not one this large. Barrel extension is sitting nice and flush in the receiver. The thing that concerns me is the gas tube not sitting far enough in  the receiver may cause some problems. I don't have the bolt - it is off getting lightened and should be back this week. Is this going to be a problem?

Here are the components:

DPMS Upper/Lower

Fulton Armory Barrel

JP gas block/handguard

DPMS rifle length gas tube

My first thought is that it's not a problem. Here are some thoughts, though:

1) Was the barrel dimpled? That's not a set screw gas block as all of JP's are clamp type. That would be one way to check alignment. The dimples aren't used and you can't remove the gas block without removing the compensator, but you should still be able to slide it forward (unless the gas block's already been threadlocked).

2) That's what looks like an 18.5" Fulton barrel. As far as I know those have a shoulder for the gas block to sit against. If the block is up against it, then it's aligned unless the barrel is that far out of spec (unlikely).

3) I have seen a lot of JP handguards that have a gap between them and the gas block. It's normal because that's just how long they are.

4) Do you have a piece of aquarium tubing? Put it on the end of the gas tube and blow on it. If it sounds like a lot of air is coming through, then you're fine and the block is aligned.

As it is most rifles carry too much gas rather than too little. Even if there is a lot of space between the BCG and gas tube, your rifle might still cycle. I would say just take it out and shoot it. The worst thing that can happen is that your rifle won't cycle.

i havnt used that HG, but most FF HG's will have about a 1/2" adjustment at the barrel nut. are you able to screw it out further?
i would bet that the gas block is where it is supposed to be, and only issue would be cosmetic.
