| In all of the various kicking around for subsonic performance and/or just plain interesting to shoot, has anything ever been done with the 8mm Kurz/7.92x33 for the AR? It was the cartridge that spawned the whole genre in the StG44, so why not? Sure there aren't as many 8mm bullets as there are some others, but there definitely exist and the performance out of the cartridge certainly is better than many in its class, particularly given modern advances in design and metallurgy. Any thoughts? |

Any thoughts? Not new/cool/expensive enough. Well, maybe expensive enough, but definitely not cool sounding enough. If you named it "8mm Stealth", "7.9 Corn-hole Ripout" or something like that, then you might have a winner. Ballistically, it's a good idea. Just need to work on the name. |

ammo
brass dies OAL length works for the AR mag, find a barrel and a chamber cutter go from there Edit: the BR series of cartridges have a .473 case head... now the 7.92x33 uses a .470 case head... Harrison at AR performance makes bolts and barrel extensions for the ar15 in the BR bolt face so if you really want one it looks like you could put it together... Edit again:another arfcom thread |

I'm not sure what exciting and deviant things you do on the weekend to think that name is "cool sounding" but I suspect we do not share the same interests..... ![]() |
| I don't know why you think it's subsonic. The standard 7.9x33 load is 125gr at 2250fps. If you are thinking of loading it up with 198gr bullets from the standard 8mm Mauser cartridge, you would probably be subsonic since the bullet would use up a lot of case capacity. I fail to see the point, though. |

I fail to see the point, though. Theoretically, a heavy bullet could be seated out farther and still fit in an AR mag. Something like a 1/2 inch. The PP brass is cheaper than 7mm BR Rem. I'd neck it up to .338. |

Edit again:another arfcom thread I think I've been at the "AR Performance" site before and saw the special bolt and barrel extension but can't seem to find it now. Do you happen to know what the prices where for those parts? |
