I am considering adding a brake to my 16" OBR. (Loud, I know). I have a couple variables to consider and am wanting to make a good decision.
First, I want an effective muzzle brake. I want to be able to spot shots that are closer than 5-600 yards (giving plenty of time to recover). I would like to be able to spot hits at 2-300 yards as well. Secondly, in all likelihood, I will be adding a suppressor sometime this year. Problem is, I haven't settled on a model or brand. But, I doubt it will be a Surefire. Based on some friends results with their db reduction and their very high price. Suppressor mounting is not critical, but would be nice. If/when I mount a can, I will likely leave it on, so the brake doesnt necessarily have to mount a can. I just want a super effective brake for the OBR. Would like to hear specific results you all have gotten with the SF brake, especially on short 762 semi's. Also would like to hear other options I have never had a semi with a brake, and the only brakes I have used were on a TRG42 and a Desert Tac 338lm. |
| Battlecomps are ok, but the are far from the most effective brakes available. The draw for these brakes is that they are a little quieter on the shooter and those around the shooter. The surefire, AAC, and RAD brake are amazing at recoil reduction, but they are loud. |

I have the AAC 15T Breakout on my 16" MWS and it is effective at recoil reduction. It is very loud and very obnoxious to anyone with-in 5 feet to either side but not bad for the shooter. I chose it cause I wanted to add as little length as possible to my barrel and be suppressor capable.
I don't have surefire breaks on any 308s but do have them on 2 5.56 guns and they are very effective in the smaller version |

I have a SF brake on one of my 556 guns and it works gret albeit loud. A buddy of mine has one on his 7.62 OBR. I don;t have gobbs and gobbs of trigger time but I do have enough to know it works great.
As far as can selection is concerned, the SF cans work as advertised. I have personally have an AAC Cyclone II on a bolt gun and it is very quiet. If your gonna screw it on and leave if there then $650 for a cyclone is a good deal. Other effective screw on cans would be AWC, |
