I am looking hard at getting the Mk 12.  Cant seem to find much in the way of reviews.  Does anybody have one and what is your opinion of it.

The DPMS 308 Mk12 seems to be a pretty nice setup, but they're still pretty new compared to the SASS so not that many people are talking about them.  There have been a few topics on them in the past, most likely archived.  A few members have purchased them and I haven't heard many complaints but like I said they're new.

I definitely has some advantages over the SASS, 2lbs lighter is a big plus, the price is definitely easier to justify to the wife too!

I do not see this info on their webpage but from the picture it looks like the rails/handgaurd are rifle length. Are they? Does this rifle use a rifle length gas tube?

I have one.  Yes, the gas system is rifle length.  I have put about 200 rounds through mine without any issue.  (ammo was 147g handloads)  I don't shoot from a bench so I can't comment on accuracy, but I have no trouble hitting my 5" plates at 200.  The DPMS magazines included with it have been as reliable as the P-Mags I bought.

I wish it weighed about 1# less, but short of turning the barrel down or using a carbon fiber forend it won't happen.

Oh, I figure I have about $5K in it between match fees, travel expenses, equipment, ammo, practice, etc.

Thanks to DPMS's support of the Ft Benning 3 Gun Challenge I received this rifle for winning my division.  It looks like they sell for around $1,700.00

You could swap out the DPMS Hanguard for one of the new TROY TRX-308 Handguards that are out.
http://troyind.com/%20/battlerails/troy-battlerail-trx-308-12

The Dpms Handguard weighs 23oz and the new Troy 12" is suppose to be around 12 oz's or less. That'll save you at least 11 oz's right there.

I'd like to swap it out for the new Samson Evolution, but I don't have the tools for a LR-308 yet.

Thanks for the info on the weight, I knew this forend was heavy, but didn't realize it was that heavy.  I have no use for the rails anyway, so it that would be a great swap.

Did yours come with that rear sight because I just picked mine up a week or two ago and it came with MI flipups front and back.  BTW, out the door was $1520 for mine, new.

I have only run 50 rounds through it but so far so good.  I will be giving a full report on it this spring or summer at practical application distances of 500 yds and out though.

Mine came with the MI flip-up rear like yours.  The sight pictured on the rifle was a spare in my parts box.

I took my rifle out yesterday and fired a few groups from the bench.  With 147g unknown bullet reloads, 5 shot groups at 100 yards were around 2.25".  5 shot groups with American Eagle 168g BTHP were 1 1/4" consistently.  All groups were fired with a 1.25x4 Bushnell Elite 4200.  Shooting from the bench makes me realize the trigger needs either work or replacement.  Although 2 stage, it's too heavy and has quite a bit of creep in the 2nd stage.  I don't know if this will improve with shooting or not, I have probably 200 rounds through the rifle at this point and have dry fired it about the same number of times.

I am pleased with the American Eagle accuracy.  It doens't shoot much better out of my 700 police.
