I have about 30 rounds through it, following proper break in procedures. With 150gr ammo at 100yds I am already seeing why this gun gets such great reviews. I am looking forward to a good zero with 168gr match ammo after my break in is complete.

You'll probably see a difference with the 168 grains. While my lr-308 does pretyy well with the 150 grain stuff it really tightens up with a 168 grain bullet. Nice looking collection there, I'm thinking I need a black shotgun to go with my two black rifles now.

I am looking forward to it. I want to get out to a 300yd range in the spring to stretch it's legs...

Shot my SASS today at 550 yards, prone.  I had no problem hitting the center of a 8" target with Federal 150 grain and a 20X Leupold M4 scope.  The ballistic charts I created are spot on for 150 and 180 grain Federal.

However, I was supprised how inconsistent 180 grain was.  I was able to hit the target 20 times in a row with 150 grain, but 180 grain was either right on or would miss the target by a foot.

I have shot 168 grain match a few times at 100 yards and was not able to see any difference in my 5 shot groups over 150 grain.

I just added an AAC muzzle break for the suppressor I have on order, and I prefer that over the stock flash hider.

I would love a suppressor but I live in NJ so I must settle for a muzzle brake. I am convinced that the Miculek does have an affect on the recoil of the rifle. I have shot a .308 lr without one and it had noticeably more kick. Less kick mean more effective rounds down range

How do you like that grip?
I traded for a DPMS SASS .308. It has a grip that's more like a stock AR15 grip. I would prefer it to fill my hand more. How does the bottom part feel when you grip the rifle? Does it help keep your hand in position like a target grip on a pistol does?

Mine came to me with a stainless bolt, Timney trigger, PRI FF tube, a Primary Weapons System comp and a Magpul ACS stock, BufferTech hydraulic buffer, KNS pins, a YHM mount for the Harris swivel bipod I installed. I installed a 6.5-20x44 Vortex Viper on a Larue LT-104 mount.
So far it really likes 175gr SMKs, which is good since I have about 500 of them. I tried a few loads, but haven't got serious about developing a load yet. I have noticed that it isn't finicky about loads though. I had good results- so far, using 43gr os RL-15 and the 175 SMK loaded to mag length. I am using P-Mags so mag length is 2.80", and that is close.
I will post pics soon.

Wow! That sounds like a sweet set up. Please post pics soon! As far as the grip, I like the feel of it. It is a thick grip with a bump to rest your thumb on. It is hard plastic which isnt as nice as the rubberized feel (ergo grip, houge, etc). I think the bottom hand rest is a great addtion, you can rest your hand on it and take all the pressure off the grip which in turn will help maintain good sight picture.

The Ergo Tactical Deluxe ambi is very similar tot he shape of the DPMS target grip that comes on a SASS.  I use the sure grip version with the tack rubber.  They have a large frame model that comes with a gap-filling piece.

Hi Jim,

As others have stated the grip swell fills the palm better, and the shelf certainly does provide a stabilizing effect (at least in my opinion), so it's a keeper for bench and prone shooting. The only gripes for me are that I don't like the hard plastic feel (I prefer Ergo Suregrips), but the SASSY bitch is too heavy for CQB use anyway -unless the hordes rush you and there's no other option!  I have ordered a rubber sleeve (one similar to what I have on my Glock) and plan on sliding that over the grip to see if that affords a better feel.

I've also adapted my shooting style somewhat to incorporate the grip as well, instead of using my bean sock under the stock for elevation adjustments, I place it under the grip shelf and squeeze to make incremental changes - I'm not sure Bob Swagger would approve, but, since I'm shooting recreationally, and the only clear and present danger is my ever-growing prostrate, I'm at peace with it.

Stick with the heavier bullet too by the way - if your SASS is like mine it does best in the 175-180 grain range.  Love that 1:10 twist!

Happy shooting!

Thanks for the advice. I will try the 175 grain but they kill the wallet.

I am loading a 175gr SMK. If you buy a box of 500 it's a little cheaper.
