I found this website and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on it. I know that a few companies (Hesse/Vulcan, for instance ) made a few, I don't know if they actually work.

Ugly as hell, sure, but potentially useful? Functional?

And the point would be...make people think you are running an AR, but ... not?

That is a good question. I just found it and was wondering the opinion of the hive. I suppose the purpose would be a 7.62x39 AR-15 with reliable, inexpensive magazines. Or a legal AK-mag-fed 7.62x39 rifle for states that do not allow AK-47-style rifles (like CT).

The upper and bolt carrier have to have material removed that the larger AK magazines will fit.

I have thought about it several times. I have the magazines and the ammo for this. But, I will most likely buy a RRA Lar-8 as it is compatible with the fal magazines I already have also.

the way i understand it is to have a 7.62x39 ar and be able to use AK mags due to, at least in the past, the mags being junk for the AR in that caliber.  I think it is cool.

At the price of everything (Complete lower + complete upper), I'd just buy an AK and invest the difference into other caliber variant/stuff.

Just my .02

If .300 Blackout catches on it seems like there'd be no need for this sort of thing, other than as a curiosity.

No matter how much I wish to the contrary, .300 BLK will never be as cheap as 7.62x39mm.

True dat.

I've heard the amount of material thats has to be removed from the upper and carrier is fairly significant.

I'd agree that the money would probably be better spent on regular AK, but that never stops people from trying things.

yes, hesse/vulcan did some receivers..........and yes, they are to hesse's outstanding tolerances.

These on the other hand......are qaulity machined pieces, atleast the ones in the past were. Micheals Machines originally made them for Toad Bailey (special Weapons) under a contract. SW has a reputation, just a little better then Hesse. while some of the stuff he has done, is not bad.....he has very poor people skills, like to make people pay WAY in advance and uses the money to develop and produce the product he is pre-selling.......I am sure the relationship he had with micheals machine went south a LONG time ago. If the price was right, I would not have a problem getting one of the lowers from M.M.

Hey guys I was just reading the posts here and thought I might drop in my .02 on this whole subject.  I built an AR-47 using a model 1 sales upper ER Shaw barrel i use MWG polymer 10rnd mags and CProducts 30 Mags and the gun performs great.  Eats all ammo that i have fed it and magazines are reliable enough to bump fire without fed failures.  just my 2 cents.

wait....C-products is making AK mags? or do you mean that you built a AR-15 Chambered in 7.62x39? I just ask since we are talking about a lower receiver that takes AK mags......

congrads on it working out so well for you.....there have been a lot that have not been so lucky for their builds to come out perfect and run so great....but I am not going to turn this into a AR15 chambered in 7.62x39 discussion, there have already been enough of those threads.

I still keep thinking on one of these M.M. lowers, have some AK drums that would be fun in this type of build.

7.  All full auto, so we'll never be able to get our hands on one.  6 went to SOCOM, the other one was retained by Knights.

Stay away from the Vulcan, it is garbage.

They used a special upper.  It is longer than a standard AR upper.

That would be a neat build and a really fun lead sprayer. If one is patient and can find deals on the parts for the upper, this wouldn't be all that expensive of a build, either.

I have been trying to get ahold of AR47 folks, but they won't return my e-mails & there's been no phone no on their site for a while so they may be out of production or something.

MGI is crooked. I ordered 5 of their 7.62x39 bolts about 1.5-2 years ago & they never delivered them (screwed me out of $750). I emailed & called repeatedly. They would never reply to the e-mails & told me over the phone they were going to reimburse me, but they never came through. I talked to a friend at the range who had the same problem with them, but had Mastercard reverse the charge. Unfortunately my issue had been too long past for them to do it for me.

I have a MGI lower & it is a pain to use the AK-mag adapter. Most mags need dremmel/grinding work to get operational & the mag release spins & prevents you from dropping mags because it's not captured. Good idea, but junk in my opinion.

Finally CProducts came through with functional 7.62x39 mags so I have several uppers & have built several others with friends & they run great.
