| My friend has been begging me to go shoot the new DPMS sass I just bought. So, after I took my friend to the shooting range with me, he now wants a 308 too. He has a DPMS 308 complete lower. From what I understand he wants to build the upper, but is some what tight on cash. Any ideas on how to keep the build as cheap as possible? I am not sure what he is really willing to spend but I can see it being much more than 600 or 700. I know he wants a 16" barrel, lowpro gas block, and midlength QDrail. |

I hear ya'. I've got a 24" bull, that I love, except for the weight, I'd like to build a lightweight 16" upper for hunting (AP4 with low pro GB, and quad), but every time I add up all of the pieces, it ends up being more money than what an already build one is. Check out Rguns.net You can get a complete ap4 upper for right at $700 Hell, you can even get a sportical upper for $500. Trust me, if I could build, or have one built for less than that, I would. I've contacted several guys who build ar's, and also priced the parts out myself, I just can't get close to their price. Hope it helps. If by chance you come across an inexpensive option, please send me a PM. Thanks

| I am building one myself and am using the sass barrel and other parts that I have purchased from an online site that I have been very happy with so far. It is going to run me under $750 done, with a chrome bolt and a free float tube. My lower has been lonely for awhile. I may have an extra stripped upper when I am done also. Let me know if you would like to know my source. |

Fulton Armory upper... $200
Black Hole Barrel...$285 DPMS BCG...$290 VTAC handguard...$200 That's about as cheap as I can figure, but for that much he can buy a new .308 from Sportsmans and have $120 left over... ETA: I forgot $50 on a gas tube & $20 on a charging handle, to say nothing of sights... |
