Hello!
I am not sue if this is the correct forum, but I know no better one! What are your opinions on the FNAR? .308, short stroke system, light barrel, pistol grip, ( awkward stock :-( ), steel 5, 10 and 20 rd mags ( bit pricey :-/ ), lots of Picatinny rails on several places... is it: reliable? accurate? durable??? Would you buy one?? What should I watch out for?? Are there any aftermarket mags? ( = how do you think it will sell / how long will it be with us? ) THX, Hermann |

Looked at them and decided not to buy one. Reasons would be I hate the grip/stock and it can not be changed. The price of the mags was the other big reason. I have not shot one but heard they were good shooters. Heard diff things about something about them being a pain to clean but not sure. There was a lot of posts on these under the FN section of the Armory but not sure if they are still there.
For $1300 ish I would rather get a 308 AR that could take cheap Magpul mags and I can change the parts when I want to. Just my opinions |

Wow!
THX, good infos there!! I would buy an AR, too, but we are not allowed. Difficult cleaning? As lomg as i´s allowed and possible to take it apart without gunsmithing, I´ll clean it - squeaky clean, regardless of work involved! Mags are a Problem, but I need only 2 2rounders ( hunting, may be converted from 10 rders ), 2 10 rd for bench use, and 5 20 rounders for ITSHTF ... Yes, bbl seems heavy! How are the TRIGGER and MAG RELEASE? Happy new Year! Hermann |

Hermann The trigger is crisp and breaks at about 4-5#. The mag release is positive and ambidextrous. The gun wasn't designed to be readily field stripped. I did it when I first got it with no problems and the proper tools. Like most of my guns, I clean the bolt face, bore snake after a trip to the range and light lube, but don't plan on field stripping it for a thorough cleaning except every 500-1000 rounds. Here is a video that pretty much explains field stripping the AR. I would have started by taking the scope off... With the restrictions in your area, you may want to check into the Browning BAR. It's available in a wide range of calibres, is also extremely accurate and if you're looking for a SHTF rifle, there are better choices than the FNAR http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLuznnkmy2k |

What´s the basic magazine??
I mean, is it a reworked M 14 Mag, a rewoked FAL mag ( would be most appropriate ;-)), an AR 10 mag or a SR 25 mag or ... And, next question qould be: is it possible, to convert as do it yourself? Hermann P.S.: agree about ugly. The AR has such classic lines, it´s really a Beauty! But if I have no choice .... |

I'd look for a DPMS/ARMALITE/LMT/whoever else makes an AR in 308 simply for the support. Im not saying FN doesnt provide support but check out an exploded diagram of that thing, its like a swiss watch! The trigger group alone is pretty complex compared to say an AR-10. The FN AR mags are propritary last I checked. That I disliked too. I would look elsewhere, my 2 cents. |

THX to all!
Yes, if I can legally get an AR in 308 I´ll get it! If not could somebody of you suggest me a Scout Rifle in .308 on a Win 70 CRF action with stripper clip loading and 10 rd mag capacity? With a long Picatinny rail above and in front of the action and a Weaver rail on the rear bridge, and iron sights, too ( or Warne Peep ). ;-) Hermann |
