I was in a gun shop recently and viewed an AR carbine that was a 7.62 and was modified to take ak 47 mags. The shop owner said Special Arms out of Mesa AZ made the rifle. I tried looking them up with no luck. Are they out of business or have changed their name? Does any one know any thing about this company or one that may currently produce the same rifle configuation? |

Quoted: Distance in which direction? When KAC built the SR-47 they needed a slightly longer upper to accommodate the magazine length, did Special Weapons do this?. But here's some gun porn: AR47 http://inlinethumb17.webshots.com/11152/2726699370058660536S600x600Q85.jpg SR47 http://inlinethumb19.webshots.com/46226/2173612270058660536S600x600Q85.jpg The distance between takedown pins on the lower is too long, so basically the same thing as the SR47. Except from what I've seen SW was claiming any 7.62x39 upper would work on their lower. This might just be an issue with only a few of their lowers, I don't know. I just know that the individual I bought this from stated they had the same issue with their other lower. Another issue with it is the lack of provisions for a detent for the pivot pin. I'll get it all taken care of eventually, just too many other projects at hand right not. |

Michaels Machines made them for Special weapons...they parted ways......go figure.....my understanding is that the ones made by Micheals machines were/are a good qaulity one. they still make them actually, but as themselves not for the Toad.
Hesse also made some......run away from these unless you have machine equipment and want a lower you WILL have to work on, and then it may eventually work...maybe...... |

The Vulcan/Hesse ones had issues.
I have an AR-47 lower from Michaels Machines / Michael Otto / AR-47.com http://www.ar-47.com/ This has worked fine for me, in full auto as well w/ a RDIAS. I've run mine in full auto in various 7.62x39 configurations using AK mags and drums. I also modified my AR-47 lower to accept AK-74 ammo. Here is a video of it running: http://www.livevideo.com/video/CF8638F6050D4502A1D3535EA3E51E16/5-45x39mm-upper.aspx Later when MGI came out with their AK-74 magwell, I just using the MGI now for both 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 configurations. Both using AK drums and mags. |
