I have decided to build a DPMS 308. This gun's main function will be home defense/something to play with at the range. Few things I am having trouble finding. I would like to use a FF quad rail that covers the low profile gas block I will be using. Would like it to look similar to this guns but on a 16" barrel.

so if I understand right, you want a rifle length rail on a 16in bbl? if that's the case then most of the rifle length guards will work. if your talking about a rail that will cover the gas block of a rifle length gas system, then there is only one rail out there that will do it(but cant member the name off hand). std rifle length handguards are 12.5 in, but one company made a 13.5in one. will look and see if I can find it.
for the trigger, DPMS actually makes a nice two stage themselves, and if you can get them to put in the spring from the Remington R25's its Very nice. if you DO plan on keeping the rifle on hand for home defence, I would recommend NOT putting on a break. I made the mistake of taking out a coon one night with my 5.56 W/ Bennie-coolie break (coon was attacking my dog) . that thing rung my bell harder then anything else in my arsenal including the .300 WSM. took almost a week for me to hear strait again. for HD I would put on DPMS's phantom or another flash suppressor. they seem to break up the pulse of the shot a bit and saves on the ears should the situation arise. if HD use is just the excuse you gave to the wife for authorization of the release of funds........then the JP Bennie Coolie is sweet |

Samson makes a 13.2" rail Rainier makes a 13" rail I got a Samson for my ma-ten build with 16" barrel and rifle length gas system. when the rail comes in, i'll post pics so you can see where it is on the barrel. My measurement from the upper threads to the gas block on my barrel (16" fulton armory kreiger medium weight) is exactly 13". Just a little of my gas block will be covered. |
