How much more difficult/more involved is it to remove the barrel from a DPMS LR308 than a standard AR?
I just bought a JP VTAC handguard and my buddy at work says he'll install it for me if it's the same as a standard small frame AR.
I'd do it myself but I just don't have the tools.
Any thoughts?

Not much different , just some different tools ( DPMS 308 barrel wrench & receiver block, to get the DPMS barrel off , I think the Vtac uses the std AR 15 wrench for there barrel nut  ). I set mine flush with the upper , no gap & no loc tight.
There instructions are pretty good on how to assemble , I just did mine different .

that rules out my buddy. He only has the tools fora an AR-15.
How do you like the VTAC handguard on the .308? Everybody I've talked to has good things to say about them.

Its a great hand guard. I have never been a fan of the feel of railed hand guards with the covers on them . They always feel to bulky to me .

The Vtac has just enough rails for me . I wanted to keep my 16" bbl. clean & light. With the proper tools you can get the rails to line up dead on for irons , as my Magpuls work very well.
