What do you guys think about the RRA 458 SOCOM midlenght upper, gtg or not? I sent Marty an email about a build but I havent heard anything back yet, so I'm just checking some other options. Also what do you guys think about the shrewd muzzle break or is there a better one out there.        Thanks in advance,

I've got the mid-length upper from RRA and had no issues at all. So far I've ran about 100 rounds from 300 to 405 grain with good accuracy.

I've run several hundred rounds of reloads through mine and I've had more trouble setting up the dies than anything else.

No issue with mine––but it may be slightly overgassed––beats up the brass a bit, but runs great.  However, RRA said just let them know and the will give me a return authorization and they will take a look at it.  I have heard a few may have gone out with a slightly larger than needed gas port.

Shoots everthing fine...300 JHP to 405 SPs.  All seem to run about 1-1.5 inch at 100 with my reloads.  If you find a set of Lee dies that work, OK, but probably better to go with a good set from Hornady from the get-go.  FWIW, I really like the 405s––pretty reasonable price in bulk, makes an impressive plinking round and gets the job done on most medium game.  Not as sexy as the TTSX, but its not such a big deal if it sheds 25%, still looking at a 300+g hunk of lead going deep.

My RRA socom middy has been great. The only thing they should have done better in my upper is polish the chamber. It leaves very slight rings on the brass. Feels good, shoots good.

I ordered the model that comes with the vortex. If it works as good as the one I had on my .223 AR I will be very happy.

Just had a std flash hider on mine.
IMO you dont really need a brake if you have a good recoil pad.

+1.  Put an Ace skeloton stock on mine and love it, much nicer than the A2 that came on the gun.

I love the two I have ! But, I would definitely go with the Mid length ! My carbine beats the crap out of me every time I take it out.
