RE: Ammo
I've found SBR to be a good reliable source. RRA has a link to them from their site. SBR also offers a reloading service where you can send your spent brass (or new brass) to them and they will reload. Reloading doesn't require the 11% tax that "new" ammo has built into the price. At the cost of these rounds, that adds up! (yes, yes, I know, reload myself and save even more, got it. Someday, just not today. |

I have 3.
Ruger Bolt action. 8" AR upper 18" AR upper (for sale) Its an addictive cartridge especially if you reload and will take down anything in North America with ease. Super wide range of bullet selections for it. Recoil is very managable. Only down side is cost of ammo if you dont reload. |

love my rra - it has been 100% reliable
it seems to love the handloads (34-5g H110, rem bulk 300g, CCI350).I'll shoot for groups with it next time to see what it will do. It has an aimpoint on it and is minute of deer accurate for sure. By far the most fun gun I have owned. |

in reply to the statement about nobody saying there rock river arms will consistently go under 1 inch at a hundred yards I will say that the enclosed photo happens more than not . this is hornady 325 grain ftx bullets launched with 36 grains of reloader 7 and a cci 300 primer . the scope is a leupold 2x7x33. the rifle may shoot better but I cant . this is 7 shots at 100 yds. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f247/jwb47/DSC_0103.jpg?t=1277352634 touche I would call that a win. |

My RRA 458 middy upper will do this all day with the 325 ftx and the 300gr rem hp using IMR 4198. I don't post pics because I don't feel I need to prove it. |

A couple of doors down in this 458 help thread, Coop posted some links to reloading which should give some velocity help.
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=121&t=500407&page=2 Please bear in mind that even on the old 458 Board it was difficult to really nail down absolutes when it comes to velocity. Comes down to barrel twist and length, and how you iterperate pressure signs and top loads. No saami specs yet (I think), so everyone is flying a little blind. With that said, with a 300 grain bullet, you should be able to get something between 1800 and 2000 fps, depending on where you would feel safe topping out. If you crunch the numbers in a ballistic program, you will see that fiddling with barrel length to perhaps gain an additional 50,70 maybe 100 fps does pretty much nada to help with flattening out the trajectory at reasonable ranges. I have a 20" barrel, and with a big scope it does tend to be pretty nose heavy. I would recommend basing decisions on barrel length more towards comfort carry, intended use, gas system etc. Most every variable other than max velocity. Craig |
