I just received the 50BMG upper I bought on Gunbroker from Bohica Arms.
I have to say I feel it is completely unsafe to fire and is a poorly finished piece of work. The bolt has a LOT of play, even when closed. The bolt handle bolts on to the bolt and you have to adjust it for "proper fit" so that the bolt will close all the way and yet still open all the way as well. If you tilt the upper to the side, with the bolt completely closed, it will swing open on its own just from gravity. The millwork is not impressive and the bluing is worse than that. I emailed Chris about this and received a phone call from a guy named Mark who was very patronizing and unsympathetic. He said that the upper is completely safe, without his actually seeing it, and said they will not take it back. The language I used became profane at that point until he hung up. I guess you get what you pay for, but now I'm stuck with a $1300 paperweight. I couldn't in good conscience sell it to anyone else. Lucky me. Learn from my mistake. |

The bolt/striker assembly isn't under any sort of tension when closed - after all, the AR-15 hammer is smacking the primer - just like with a standard AR BCG. If a cartridge isn't chambered, there isn't going to be any resistance against the bolt body. Depending on cartridge headspace and throat length/diameter, the closing/opening resistance may vary substantially. The bolt handle does bolt on - it would be mighty hard to remove it for cleaning and/or maintenance if it didn't. It also provides all of the primary case extraction when properly adjusted. What are the safety issues you mention? |

I have one, functions great, no issues whatsoever. The "problems" you describe have been explained as functions of the design. +1 Chamber a round and it locks up nice and tight. And Chris has been more than helpful with any issues I had with mine, including free upgrade from the gen2 to the gen3 after UPS bent the upper while shipping it. Then again, I never fbombed him, I just called and left a msg. |

The Bohica is a very crude poorly made upper and you are taking a chance pulling the trigger on one. 50 BMG is not something to mess around with when using poor equipment. There are others out there that are made of better materials and better quality. God help you if you ever get hurt because Bohica will not. |

UPS fucked it up with a lot of force (destroyed the box), but not in a critical way, it just made it hard to close onto the lower. It still functioned fine. Remember all of the force is in the barrel/chamber and bolt.. Not the rest of the stuff. I've found the Gen3 to be very well made, especially at the price point I got it at. J |

Who would of guessed with a name like Bohica.
WIKI definition: BOHICA (also spelled "B.O.H.I.C.A" and Bohica") is an acronym that stands for "Bend Over, Here It Comes Again" - Used colloquially to indicate that an adverse situation is about to repeat itself, and that acquiescence is the wisest course of action. An alternative etymology relates the expression to the days of sail and avoiding being struck by the boom, which would swing around the mast due to shifts in wind or the vessel's course. The term grew to regular use amongst the United States armed forces during the Vietnam War. Although it originated in the US Military forces, its usage has spread to civilian environments and used to describe unavoidable, unpleasant situations that have inconvenienced one before, and are about to yet again. |

The only issue I have ever seen with a Bohica upper was due to some one trying to close the bolt with a hand sledge.
The "other high quality uppers" that have been referenced have had a lot more Ka-booms than Bohica, even with similar numbers of uppers in the field. |
