having an idea of building a long range rifle, i was going to go with a 308 build, but after reading up on some 6.5 lit, i am leaning more towards the grendel

some noob questions:

6.5 uses a standard 556 lower with a 6.5 upper/bolt/barrel and 6.5 magazines?  is this correct?

you can either buy wolf 6.5 and relaod the brass or there are resizing options from 308 to 6.5?

thanks guys,  i read both our FAQ and the grendel.com faqs and i didnt see any mention of either.

6.5 uses a standard 556 lower with a 6.5 upper/bolt/barrel and 6.5 magazines?  is this correct?  Standard lower, upper and bolt carrier.  The bolt & barrel and mags are the only Grendel specific parts required

you can either buy wolf 6.5 and relaod the brass or there are resizing options from 308 to 6.5?  You can reload Wolf, AA, or the "coming soon" Hornady ammo.  You can't resize .308 down but you can 7.62x39 (AK ammo).

thanks guys,  i read both our FAQ and the grendel.com faqs and i didnt see any mention of either.

Resizing 7.62x39 is quite a process.

1.  Find 7.62x39 reloadable brass case

2.  Neck size it to 6.5 and reload it.

3.  Shoot it to fire form it to 6.5.

4.  Reload from now on as 6.5, but you may be limited to only 1 of 2 more reloadings if you are pushing pressure.

Good answers above! Also, check out the 6.5 grendel forum for a lot of info as well.

Send me an email at [email protected] if you need a barrel.  I have a buy going on right now with Lothar Walther that will save you a few bucks off their retail prices.

You'd have to be doing something very wrong to only get 1 or 2 loadings from a fire-formed case. If its done correctly, you should get just as many loads as any other caliber. I've got fire-formed cases with 7 and 8 loadings. The primer pockets are still tight, no signs of abnormal stress. You can also hydro-form cases.
