I'm considering getting a S&W 5.45 upper.  I understand that the heavy hammer spring is required for reliable function with this set-up.

My question is, does the heavy hammer spring have any effect on function with other uppers, i.e., 5.56 or 9mm, if I wanted to swap uppers around?

Thanks!

I haven't noticed any negative effects with 5.56 uppers.

That's good to hear.  It was your blog post that got me looking seriously at that caliber.  Thanks for the reply.

Note, I haven't tried it with 9mm, and you will notice a heavier trigger pull. I should disclose that before you buy anything.

However, it's fairly simple to swap hammer springs if it bothers you.

I've shot multiple uppers in various calibers (including 9mm) with the heavier spring and seen no problems. The trigger pull is a little heavier, but nothing to complain about.
