I'm right handed/left eye dominant.  I'm just trying to think this through for 5.45 shooting.

A left hand ejecting BCG is sold by Stag.  Can making a left hand AR15 in 5.45 cal be as easy as having the 5.56 bolt face opened up to 5.45 like Kurt Wala was doing before he passed?  Or is the barrel extension an issue against turning one of Spike's 5.45 barrels into a left shooter?

Am I missing anything else here, or am I trying to reinvent something that hasn't worked before?  I haven't turned up any info on Google yet, so I don't know if it's just not there or if my Google-Fu is lame.

I think you've got it, you'll need an AMBI barrel extension, left handed upper and bolt carrier group, then have the bolt opened up. Some modify the extractor while others report a 556 extractor working just fine.

Thanks for the heads up on the AMBI barrel extension.

i dont know why you'd want a lefty gun, i'm left handed left eye dominate and i shoot all right handed guns and personally think you have some advantages to shooting a right hand gun left handed

I agree with this.  Have you heard about specific problems with this caliber and shooting from the
left hand?  I am right handed and left eye dominate, I shoot left handed and have not had any problems.
Was even shooting my recently built M16A1 clone yesterday, and was not bothered by the brass.
I was worried that the lack of a brass deflector would prevent me from shooting it,
but no problems in the 60 rounds I fired.

I recently ordered the S&W 5.45 upper, it should be here tomorrow.
I'll let you know if I have any problems with it.

Such as?
All I can think of is all the righty parts are more standard/obtainable.
My why is because, (as I get better at lefty shooting), I want access to weapons that put the ejection port on the other side of the upper than the one my eyes/face are/is on.
Either way - the mag release and bolt release are on the 'wrong side' for left hand on the trigger orientation.
I'm interested in your views.  I can't think of everything, and I don't want to miss something that you think is important.
ETA: HammerliShooter - You don't think the ejection port is important enough?  I'm shooting right weapon left handed more often.  I'm thinking that I want the stuff on the other side for the same reason that righty's want the stuff blowing out the right.

No, I really don't think it's an issue.  I toyed with the idea of building
a left ejecting ar, but couldn't talk myself into it.  The right ejection has
never been a problem for me, I don't even notice it.  I can't think of a
single time I have wished that the ejection was on the left other than the
fact that It would be unique.

Since it's really not required, why pay more and have less options?

Although I do regret not getting my bolt action 308 in a left
handed action, that is a pain with a scope mounted.

well i guess i wasnt really thinking that you'll still have all of the controls the same other than the brass flying out of the other side, i think i general leftys have a few advantages with reloads, checking the chamber ect
