I have a new LR308 had it about 3 weeks now I installed a Jard trigger in it when I first got it did all the function tests it passed no problem take it to the range sighting in and then plinking a little and it starts double firing is there something else that could cause this? it has done it with both facory and reloaded ammo I have about 230 rounds throught it now and it has doubled maybe 20 times in all of it. thanks in advance for any help! scott |

Take your bcg out of the upper, check the firing pin. Do you have and extra firing pin? check the lenght. But first make sure the pin is free floating, shake the bcg. The firing pin may be protruding through the face of the bolt assy,it could be stuck. RJ Don't see how the bolt carrier/firing pin are going to be the problem here, but I could be wrong. Simple troubleshooting goes like this; Did the gun double up before the new trigger install? Yes or No. If No, then remove/repair/replace trigger... |

REALLLLY light triggers have been known to double on .308 AR's. especially if the gun is light. I've got a 3# timney, and it's never done it... |

This I know, but we can't assume it's a slamfire without him answering whether or not it happened with the original trigger... EDIT - That is if he shot it with the original trigger! Install original trigger, optest, then get back to us. If no doubles, it's the JARD. |

I did not shoot it with original triggerat first but have since reinstalled the stock trigger and it still does it. the firing pin is free floating no problem there disconnector functions as it should?
I have been tryingall I can think of but function check is good and it does it with factory trigger also so I am lost? the Jard is 2 lb very nice trigger pull! original is the normal 7-8 lbs gun ie 24" DPMS LR308 |

I'm thinking unintentional "bump" firing. Try this the next time you shoot it unless this is the way you shoot anyway- pull the trigger to the rear firing the rifle and hold it to the rear- while you prepare for the next shot, slowly let the trigger reset.
If the rifle doubles with the trigger held to the rear and hammer in the cocked position (held by disconnector), it's slam firing and is dangerous. If the gun fires when you let up on the trigger, there's a trigger problem- maybe disconnector timing or sear engagement depth. If the rifle functions normally, it was due to trigger manipulation- bump firing. |

Just a guess ??? could you have reflexivly tapped the trigger on recoil ?? Light triggers on 308 carbines can have double taps if you are not careful I actually thought that might be the problem but wasn't sure I will have to do some more shooting and see. if it isn't that and it is slam firing what could be cuasing it? firing pin is free floating and not stuck. thanks scott |

A slam fire is a dangerous condition. If the round fires before the bolt is locked, the result can be catastrophic. |

As everyone knows, the DPMS LR-308 stock trigger is horrible, so I was looking to change it out. The guys at DPMS told me NOT to use Jard triggers in my LR-308. Didn't ask why. So I put in a Bushmaster 2-stage, and it creeped and dragged, so I sent my stock trigger to Bill Springfield for fine tuning ($50). It is much much better than original, but still has one little tiny momentary drag spot. So, I'm still looking for a really smooth target trigger, but not looking forward to dropping another $200.
Spent $1200 on a "target rifle" and DPMS puts in those horrible stock triggers in them.
