| I have a CMMG lower that takes DPMS mags. The upper is a DPMS 308 Sportical. I shot this today for the first time. I was using two different DPMS 5 round mags. I will be using this for hunting in a state where I am restriced to no more then 5 rounds so another mag size is not an option. On to the problem. The first round fired and ejected with no problem but the second round out of the magazine jammed. The front of the bolt was hitting the case right below the case shoulder. The problem seemed to clear if I only loaded three rounds but returned if I loaded four. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on why this is happening? Any alternative magazines I can use? The two mags I have are both DPMS but purchased at different times so it is not like it was a bad batch. Any thoughts and suggestions will be appreciated. |
| No I don't think there is anything wrong with the gun. This problem even happens when I manually cycle the rounds. However if I push up on the bottom of the mag it seems to cycle o.k. I'm not sure how to fix this. Does anyone have any ideas or alternate mags they are aware of? |

I had a similar problem with one of my 20rd DPMS mags. Check to make sure your mag lips aren't bent. Mine was only slightly bent and I got a very similar problem that you're having. The bend would cause the round to sit just a bit too low on one side. When I tried chambering a round, whether manual or automatically the bolt would scrape and mangle the brass pretty badly.
Let's say it's the right feed lip and you load 2 rounds. Because it's a double stack magazine it will pick the first round up from the left side of the magazine just fine. Then when the bolt tries to strip that second round that bent lip makes it sit too low and it will jam up. If you load 3 rounds that doesn't happen, 4 rounds is just like 2 rounds and you get the same problem. I may have it backwards on which side it feeds first, but hopefully you get the idea. I encourage you to call up DPMS and they'll make it right. I believe I spoke to Shane when I called. |
