I have the 16.5" bbl version.....I LOVE the gun. I bought at $2300, but that was before the election. Not sure if $2600 is a fair price now or not.....they were up to around $4500 during the craziness after the election....but since then (especially in the past few months) prices have dropped drastically. Bushmaster ARs were going at $1300 and are now back down around $750 in some places.
With the back order status (like over a year) for POFs, $2600 may be reasonable, but 14.5" is pretty short (as is 16.5") for a .308. I'd be tempted to go LWRC REPR and get an 18 -20" for around $3200. I don't think you'll go wrong with the POF.....like I said, I love mine. If I had the money, I'd love to have a REPR as well. I have a 20" currently and had a 16". I paid $2500 for my 20" around 6mo. ago and $2800 for the 16" during the "craziness" after the first of the year. I would say that $2600 is "fair" but it is nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, the market is still up in terms of price and down in terms of availability, so I doubt that you'll find any much cheaper than that.
As for the 14.5" setup...that is WAY short for a 308 if you plan on using it further than 500yds (depending on ammo, conditions, etc.). I got rid of my 16" rifle because I wanted something to "reach out" further and my experience was that the 16" lost a lot after 500yds compared to the 20" in terms of velocity, drop, terminal ballistics, etc. Again, it depends on the role you have in mind for the rifle, but you may want to look into the differences in performance of the 308/7.62x51 in different barrel lengths before taking the plunge on a rifle that may not meet your needs. Buy once...cry once. As for the POF...they are phenomenal rifles. Accurate, reliable, smooth operation...did I mention accurate!! My 20" is easily sub-MOA with match factory and my handloaded ammo and my best 5rnd groups to date have been in the 0.4s with my 168gr SMK handloads. I haven't worked on the heavier 175gr loads yet, but that is my next step in load development with my 20". |
| Rainer arms is where I would be getting it from. I stopped by there Friday and saw the rifle. They have the 14.5 and 16" rifles in stock. I will most likly go with the 16" if I buy one. I am looking to shoot out to 200 yards at the most. Thanks for all the comments and help. I just now have to pull out the CC and get the rifle and surpressor, that is the hard part. |

If you are only going to shoot out to 200yds, you won't notice a perceptible difference between the 14.5" and 16"...the range is just too short to have that big of an effect. The biggest problem you'll have with the 14.5" and your desire to mount a suppressor is that the POF flashhider on the 14.5" is permanently attached to keep if from being an NFA item with that short a barrel. Get the 16" and don't look back. |
