Why would I need a forward assist on an AR-10?

Would you recommend one?

Forward assist looks badass. But it a sure way to jam an oversize or dirty round in the chamber, making your rife inoperative.

If a 308 won't chamber, eject it and chamber a new round.

Should I get the 20" or the 18" model?  Looking for it to be accurate out to 400 yrds.

For brass/chamber check and nothing else that I can think of.  A nice feature, but not a necessary one IMO.

If you need to quietly load a round...say for maintaining stealth in hunting or tactical applications. Also may be useful for cross platform familiarity for those folks trained on platforms with a forward assist. Certainly not a necessity, but there are uses for it IMO.
