I have ordered a barrel blank to start my upper project. Anyone willing to share some gas system info. I need to know if you are running a carbine length or shorter system and where to start as far as gas port size. Any info would be appreciated.
thanks in advance ––––––––––DV–––––––––––– |

anyone? anyone? Its a little dificult to hand over what I had to figure out. No one had an upper that ran on surplus with a stock lower until I figured out what it took. its no fun drilling multiple holes in a brl. IM for specifics. Everyone wants something for nothing...Ron worked hard to make a DI 7.62x25mm and I have to say the upper he built me runs great... |

Everyone wants something for nothing...Ron worked hard to make a DI 7.62x25mm and I have to say the upper he built me runs great... Im not looking for something for nothing. Im building 1 upper for myself not going into business to compete with anyone. I have built several Ak style weapons in 7.62x25 and also a beltfed 7.62x39. I willingly share what I have learned with the gun community. I understand what goes in to R and D as I have done it myself over the last decade. I share my knowledge when asked and will continue to do so. When noone could find barrels for their projects, I purchased a reamer and started producing barrels so that the AK crowd could complete their projects in 7.62x25. I did it for the hobby, not the money. Half the fun to me is developing a system that works. Im just looking for a starting point not all the answers. I applaud poeple like Ron who have developed a product for the masses and I wish him nothing but success. Im certainly not looking to steal anyones design...just looking for a starting point for my own. Sorry if i have offended anyone........DV.......... |
| Given the relatively large bore diameter and small powder volume I'd start with a pistol length gas system and go from there. And, I totally agree with you on sharing knowledge. Telling someone the gas system needs to be XX.X" long isn't going to affect anyone's sales. |

Telling someone the gas system needs to be XX.X" long isn't going to affect anyone's sales. Actually, posting the exact dimensions of the gas system on these boards WILL affect sales for those of us who rely on them to fund things. I am lucky that I have an outside career that allows me to not have to rely on the gun business. But others DO rely on their sales to bring funds home. If they have invested their money and time to make a product that perhaps one or two places are offering, I see no reason for them to wish to protect their investment. I have shared openly on the development of the 7.62x25 DI and at some point, Ron took where we left off and made improvements. If Ron chooses to share this info, I commend him, but if he chooses not to, I fully understand and support that decision. If he does share it, likely it will be in private and I hope that said privacy is respected. Yes, I support sharing of information for the betterment of the community, but I also believe in free enterprise. |
