Some time before the world ends I hope to get my DPMS 308 SASS. This is just going to be a "toy" for me. What are people using for scopes? I want a nice one but am not going to spend more then $1000 for it. I would like the scope to be a "tactical" type scope. I also do not want to over do it. I was thinking maybe a Bushnell 3200 or 4200. Any ideas?

You should be able to pick up a Leupold 4.5-14 X 50 w/ milldot or TMR  reticle for about a grand.  I don't have one, but I've got numerous VX-IIIs on hunting rifles and have been completely satisfied.

I'm not overly crazy about the knobs on Mark IVs, so I went with Nightforce for my 7.62.  If you can stretch your budget by $500 you won't be disappointed, and will have an illuminated reticle to boot.

I've heard good things about the 4200s but have never used one myself.

I bought a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20 and liked it so much I sold my Leupolds and bought another Zeiss.  If you have a Cabelas close,     they usually carry them.  If you look through a Zeiss, I think you will like it.

I'd check out the new Sightron SIII line. I have 2 of them, one is a 6X24 with a 50mm lens and the other is the 8X32 with the 56mm lens. They have 30 mm tubes and have a shitload of adjustment.  Optically they smoke my Leupolds and you can find them for $800 or less if you look around. They are kinda hard to find as the F class shooters are gobbling them up.

I'm acquiring a LR-308C and am looking at the Falcon Menace 4-14 or 5.5-25... what mounts did you use?

I used a LaRue LT-104 and love it. It is a solid fit that doesn't move, and the mount itself is built like a tank too. I had to move it all the way forward on the receiver to get the most comfortable position. Looks great too.

Wonder if I'd need a LT-135 for the 5.5-25x55mm?

Here's a pic of  the LT-104 with the Menace 4-14x44mm. That should give you an idea of how close the smaller objective comes. You can ask LaRue which one you'll need for the 5.5-25x55mm.

Looks good, I may end up settling for a 4-14x due to size, cost and being able to use it slightly closer (due to starting at 4x instead of 5.5x) I'm guessing there's room to mount BUIS with your combo?

There should be room, I just haven't had the money to get one yet. The Magpul BUIS looks like it is pretty low profile and should fit nicely when folded down.

LaRue says on the LT-104 page that it won't work with MBUS

Crap, I'll have to find something else.

You could get a LT-135 instead and use MBUS

I own 3 Elites.
I currently shoot with a Bushnell Elite S.F. 4200 6x-24X mil-dots on both my RRA and on my DPMS 308.  I use the Larue QD mounts, and it holds a perfect zero for when I feel like pulling the scope off and using my BUIS. I also have a Bushnell 4200 50mm Mil-Dot SF scope on my bolt action rifle.

As of my last purchase 3 months ago, they wre still being produced in Japan.....the same place Cannon, Nikon, etc make their lenses.
I did a very carefull comparison of my $700 Black Diamond Burris against my $525 40mm 4200 scope. (not the $555 50mm Elite scope), and the Elite had the slight edge in being brighter. The clicks are sharp, and the rings work easy.

There is not a better scope for anywhere this kind of money. I wouldn't waste my money with a 3200, when you can step up a little and get a 4200
