Has anybody had any success making their 450 more accurate?  I spoke with Lothar Walther about making a barrel but he wanted me to buy the reamer for him in addition to the barrel cost.  Ridiculous!  Anyway,  this is absoluely my favorite gun and I'd like to improve on it.  Any suggestions?

Group buy for the reemer?

How about someone that can just make some barrel assemblies? 16 or 18 inch
would be good.

Possibly.  That's the irritating thing though.  Once he has it he'll starting making that barrel for other people and making money off of it.  He should buy the reamer.  A Lothar Walther barrel would be sweet though, everybody I've talked to raves about the accuracy.

How much more accuracy do you want?  I can get 250gr .452" slugs to 3/4" @ 100yds    IIRC, velocity was around 2200fps.  230gr to 2350 at slightly under an inch.

Lefty,

No experience with the 450 ( do have a 458 and other variants), but if you are working with a stock Bushy trigger, you might want to consider upgrading there.  I have two Bushmasters with their trigger, and both are pretty bad.  Or normal, for the platform, I guess.  I mean no disrespect if you are one of those folks who are unaffected by marginal triggers, but I feel that with a free float handguard, a good trigger upgrade and a reasonable attempt on the loading bench most AR's will come around to very decent accuracy.

Agreed, I'm either putting a Timney or a Geissele on it.

Lefty,

I have a Jard and Geissele, and the Geissele is beyond fantastic.  I got my Geissele back when they were 270.00, and it is the best money I have ever spent on any of my AR's to date.  Period. And mine has held up to a lot of 458 Socom loads, if substancial recoil is of any input into your decision.

Which Geissele did you get?

Lefty,

I  have had mine for quite  while, and do not remeber the exact name.  I just checked their web page and it does not let me look at their product line.  Mine is definately a match trigger, with the lightest of the 2nd stages that was offered a few years ago.  I'll try and locate my original packaging, if you would like.

I was pretty happy with this at 200 yards:

and this at 100:

I owned two BM 450s.  Now I thought think the way the cartridge fits in a GI magazine is a joke, and the BM triggers were horrible, but I was content with the accuracy.

What kind of accuracy are you after?

Not bad shootin!  If I can get in 1.5inch or better @ 200 yards, I'd be a happy camper.  May not be possible with such a bulky round.

Out of the box, I do need a new trigger though.

Out of the box I could not get under a 1.5" group from a bench with the 16" carbine.  From other reports, I knew the gun was better than that.  I put a JP trigger (4# ,machine in) trigger in and the results were great.  Here are the first 3 rounds after the trigger job.

And here is the purpose of the .450; Brutal stopping power.  I have hunted with a Ruger .44 carbine for years but it never left an exit wound like this.

I have several AR lowers that I have used with my 16" 450 upper. I have seen absolutely no advantage with either a JP modular trigger or a Geissele trigger when compared to a Bill Springfield modified stock Bushy trigger group to warrant such a $$$ outlay. The Springfield modded trigger group is one of the sweetest triggers I have ever shot, clean, crisp and absolutely no creep at 4lb's, and for 35$, it simply cant be beat!

So what's the biggest game that anybody has taken with their 450?  Looks like it'd be a good bear, elk, buffalo, etc gun too.  Anybody got any other pics?

I was gonna use mine on elk last year but had to to cut my hunt short in the middle of the first day. I'll be using it again this Dec but I only got a cow tag this year.
