Okay,
I have decided that I want to do one of two things. 1. Build an M468 OR 2. Build a 5.56 that looks like an M468. Has anyone else been there. However I am a bit new to these weapons. I have built one M4 16" barrel FF quad rail. SO... I was wondering has anyone done this before me.......of course. I want an A2 stock and grip. But what length or type of barrel would best duplicate the Barret M468? It says 16" but that front gas block and folding front sight looks like its closer to the end of the barrel. IS it like a mid length?? Also are there any alternatives to the SIRS rail system. They are very expensive and hard to get right now. IS anyone else making a similar look like rail system. And what folding gas block front sight is used? What are some look like alternatives there? And if I choose to make an actual 6.8 do reg. 5.56 mags work>? Thanks for any help. RR |

M468 was replaced by the REC7 (piston gun).
Yes both guns are mid-length designs. You can put any AR stock you want to. Personally, I do not like the SIR h/g's. There are others out there that I like more. The gas block/folding front sight on the M468 were proprietary. The REC7 uses a proprietary railed gas piston block. No, you will NOT be able to use 5.56 magazines in your 6.8. |

Okay,
So that answers a few questions. So what brands and models of front and rear folding sights would best duplicate the M468? Also what brands and models of hand guards/rails would match the best? I am thinking of just initially building a 5.56 clone............then down the road....building an actual 6.8 upper to switch out. Oh...one more question.............so I would want to get a 16" barrel set up with a mid length gas block? A gas block with either a folding sight or a railed top to attach a folding sight? Thanks for any help. really i appreciate it. RR |

I think the GG&G Modular Flip Up Front Sight (#1024) or the Vltor Sight Tower would fit the bill for your front sight.
Both the M468 and the REC7 use the ARMS #40L Low Profile rear BUIS. A 16" Mid-Length 5.56 is smoother and is less stressful on parts than the Carbine Length gas system. If you want Free Floating H/G's that are easy to install, look at the Daniel Defense Omega, MI, Samson, or Troy models. Personally, I like the Daniel Defense Lite rail, or the LaRue Tactical Handguard. With the AR, you can mix and match to suit your tastes. |

Cool,
I would still like to find a handguard system that mimics the SIRS as seen on the barret M468 though. I will check out the sights you suggested. I think I will stick with building a 5.56 gas system M468 look like for now. If you run across any other handguard system that looks like the sirs please post it here. I appreciate your help. RR |
