Last I had heard it was cheaper to buy a complete 308 AR variant. Is that still the case? From what I can tell it appears to be about the same, if not slightly more to build your own depending on what options you are looking for.
All I really know now is I'm leaning towards DPMS parts with a barrel of 20" or greater. Opinions? Thanks. |

Parts are a lot harder to source these days. A complete rifle gives you a good starting point, and when you upgrade, you can probably sell of the parts you swap out.
It depends on how long you have. If you are taking your time, get a stripped DPMS 308 lower, or one of the several new billet lowers [CMMG, Iron Ridge, SI Defense]. Then slowly gather the parts to complete it. Lower and barrel being most critical. Tracking down a good barrel could be a challenge too these days. If you want to be shooting sooner, track down a complete rifle, like an LR-308 24" heavy barrel with dust cover and over time swap what you don't like. |
