I am in the market for a big bore AR upper and stumbled across this over at
Titan Armory. http://www.titanarmory.net/id70.html Does anyone have any news on this round and an upper for it. Timeline and price wise? Is it a months to a year away, or has their website been like that for the last five years? The 450 BM, 458 Socom, and 50 Beo have muzzle energies somewhere around 2,000 to 2,600 ft lbs. An AR upper with over 4300 ft lbs as they claim is something I would be interested in. |

50 beowulf forum
These guys seem to have a good concept there. Something like one of these might just make me jump up onto the AR-10 platform. Oh, excuse me the .308 Ar variant platform. |

On the Titan Armory website it says it would mount to any AR-15 lower.
The way these guys talk at 50beowulf.com suggests it's on a AR-10 platform. I was hoping to just stick with the AR-15 platform for the ease of switching out uppers. I don't have a .308 lower. It makes sense to do it on a .308 lower as you have much more room to work with. I'm pretty sure the 458 S, 50 Beo, and 450 BM are close to the maxium limit for the AR-15 lower. Might have to wait and see. |

Been there, done that
.500 Phantom - 975 gr at 1040 fps - 2340 FPE .500 Phantom - 300 gr at 2590 fps - 4470 FPE First shots fired 2004... http://www.feistyrooster.com/500phantom/index.html .470 Rhino - 500 grain at 2100 fps - 4900 FPE
First shots fired late 2006 (rifle was displayed at 2007 SHOT Show) Dies for both calibers to be found at CH4D. Brass for .500 Phantom was being produced overseas. |

What i'm guess i'm getting at is these are not out of a AR-15 lower correct?
The .500 BAAR and these 2 MartytW has, are out of .308 Lowers. I should probably revise my question, are the 3 main current big bore contenders, 450 BM, 458 Socom, and 50 Beo, close to the max range for an AR-15 5.56 lower? |

That would be the perfect use for my CMMG lower... if it ever gets here. |

About the 458 Socom and 50 beo being about the max is what I thought.
I'll probably go with either the .450 BM or .458 Socom. It will be interesting to see how this .500 BAAR project turns out. There have been quite a few AR caliber variants that have risen and died. I would hate to jump on the bandwagon and because it's too pricey or have only one manufacturer of brass/uppers, etc., be left with an upper that I have nothing to shoot through it. |
| The 500 BAAR does work on a AR15 lower and uses a Oly type magnum upper but, we want to use a better receiver, maybe a Vltor. It is tough to get any parts for anything at the moment but this is much more likely to happen than anything using a 500 Jeffery case. Maybe next fall after we get caught up on all of the Xtreme orders. It really only takes 4-6 weeks to build, brass and dies are available. |
