I had a 24" Stainless Bull Barrel upper that I recently traded for a LR-308B upper. I think it is an improvement on balancing overall.
I bought an A3 upper for mine on gunbroker, and it is currently at Superior Weapon Systems getting a new E-1 forearm. I should have pictures up next week. The LR-308B does indeed have a carbine-length gas system. I am putting a rifle-length forearm on mine to cover the gas block. To do so, I grabbed a PRI low-profile gas block. I think you'd be happy with the LR-308B in most circumstances. –– John |

I don't think that the 2" difference between the LR-308B and the LR-308T will equal 1 pound. Both are using the roughly 1" diameter bull barrel if I understand correctly.
EDIT: Based upon the pictures posted above, the LR-308T looks like it has a thinner barrel. It looks to be either a .875" barrel or a .750" barrel based upon looking at the barrel mated up to the gas block. It that's the case, the LR-308T could well be significantly lighter than the LR-308B. If I recall correctly, the LR308 SASS has a .875" barrel. When I swapped out for the 18" LR-308B barrel, I lost 6" from my 24" Stainless Steel barrel. I doubt those 6 inches was very much weight. However, it came off the end of the barrel so it matters a great deal in balance. As for the difference being a brake... I had my LR-308B threaded and a JP Enterprises "Cooley" Tactical Brake installed. I was having a lot of trouble finding a brake that would mate up with the .920" muzzle of the bull barrel, but the .925" JP Tactical Brake worked perfectly. I'll post pictures as soon as I get it back from SWS. –– John |

Isn't the T a 16 barrel (compared to the 18" B) and 1 pound or so lighter? Nice gun regardless. I hadn't noticed the difference in barrel length. I think you are right about that. Dunno about the weight. Remember, the T has a muzzle device that must account for some weight. |
