Hi,
I used the great AR15.com build manual to construct a couple of lower assemblies. Its really good information complete with pics and notes and got me through 3 built lowers in no time at all. I used the manual to build a .308 lower and it was basically all the same, up until I got to the rear takedown pin. On the LR-308 lower, the rear pin spring and detent are supposed to go into a small hole drilled in the frame at the bottom of the hole where the rear takedown pin ultimately resides. The spring/detent/pin aren't held in place by the stock like on the ar15. It appears that the frame itself provides a back wall for the spring. I was able to get the spring in, but the detent wont fit vertically into the takedown pin hole so that it can be depressed into the hole so that the pin can be inserted. Can anyone shed some light on this or point to an article where I can find info on a 308 build. I tried searing but nothing came up. Thanks Rich |

The safety detent is a different size than the takedown detent.
The takedown detent and spring are identical to those used in an AR-15. The difference is the AR-10 detent/spring being trapped by the pistol grip instead of the buttstock as done in the AR-15. Remove the detent, spring and takedown pin from the receiver. Find a drill bit with a shank the same diameter as the detent hole. Insert the shank (not the fluted end) of the drill bit into the hole. If the hole is clear of debris, you should see the end of the shank through the takedown pin hole. If you cannot see the end of the shank, then there is debris in the hole (that's not an uncommon occurrence in small diameter holes). Flip the drill bit around and clear the debris from the hole. |

Thank you for showing me the way. SInce I had already screwed on the pistol grip, i didn't see the second hole that holds the takedown spring and detent. Lower assembled. |
