Several reported problems with bolts.  No longer produced.

RRA took back the design from Bushmaster, reworked it and are now releasing it under their label.
There are a few floating around out there.

i have one of these and i have never had a problem with it.

the bolt problem was a metal issue, they were over hardened. but have been fixed. RRA designed the gun, leased it to bushmaster. they didn't make money on it, so when the lease expired, it went back to RRA.

very tight rifle, and very accurate. i'm actually putting mine up for sale, to get a larue upper and lower, 308 rounds just cost to much to shoot for me. but when you fire it everyone stops to see were the cannon is, it like doing a burnout in muscle car.

mine is extremely accurate.

very well made rifle, ultra reliable, accepts 30rnd l1a1 mags, and bushmaster recalled the bolt.

this rifle is still made, but by rock river arms now. rock river uppers will fit it.

i wouldnt have any problems laying my life on the line with this rifle.

I have had one for around 3 years, I have had no reliability issues, I do have the updated bolt in mine, the only thing I dont like about it is the way the charging handle latches(detent not a latch) but I havent had any problems with that either. I installed the yankee hill freefloat forearm with the removable rails and like the setup. Very accurate, 1/2 moa with 168gr sierra hpbt. I also shoot wolf and south african without issues. I have a fal so I have plenty of mags, I have a few mags that dont feed reliably but just marked them for the Fal as it will feed anything from any mag.  I also like the ambi bolt release. I would definatly buy another, RRA has refined the gun and from what I understand changed the latch to the same design as the AR-15.  Get one if you can find one at a good price, but will probably be cheaper to go with the RRA.

I own all four models of the Bushmaster .308, all the bolts were upgraded to the newer style prior to their first range trip. All four have been great guns, without any problems.

That is a very nice collection.  Do you fire as much .308 7.62 X 51 as most .223 users here?  I just saw the price of .308 at my local Gander Mountain and it is almost $1 per round.

May have bought one in excellent condition for $1400 delivered, is this a good price?

Seems like a fair price considering how hard it is to find something like this. Bushmasters were always a little pricey, the new RRA model has a lower retail price but I doubt you could find one. Atleast you can get parts from them.  I wouldnt feel bad. Now stock up on good condition FAL mags. Dsa has them but they have went up to $15, used to be 6 or 7.  the 30 round curved mags will not work but if you can find the straight ones you should be good to go.  DSA is coming out with new production mags and hopefully wont take that long to get them out.

I picked up a flat top one (also have the detachable handle for it) awhile ago at a good price & just stored it away for a rainy day. Its never been fired. I don't have the rifle with me right at this moment - I'm typing from the road on my laptop. Does anyone know what serial number range they went to the new bolt ?  Can I get the replacement bolt now from Bushmaster or Rock River ?  Thanks - - -
