If you decide to change out your LR series buttstock from rifle to carbine size, be aware that the LR carbine uses a smaller than Mil-spec carbine buffer. I just tried changing my LR260L stock out for an ACE SOCOM carbine stock using the standard carbine buffer & the bolt wouldn't cycle all the way back. A call to ACE didn't do any good, but a call to DPMS revealed the problem. Also found that Slash who sells specialty buffers has a chart in EE which shows this. The Mil-spec carbine buffer is 3.250" & the LR series carbine buffer is 2.480".

the rifle length 308 buffer is similiarly shorter than an AR-15 rifle length buffer.  Thats your first hint.  Since a 5.56 round is 2.25" and a 308 round is 2.80"  the bolt retracts further to fit the rounds in or out.  This forces the buffer to be shorter as well.  Buffer and spring are on the list of parts that are NOT interchangeable.

AR-10 FAQs cover this.  Comes up once a month or so.

Guess I need to go over to the AR10 section & see what I'm missing. I don't remember seeing this in the Variant forum before. It's okay though, I have a new buffer & spring on the way from DPMS.
