I have a LR-308. I am trying to remove the gas block. After the pin knocked out and the set screws are out is it "pressed on very hard or should it pretty much slide off the barrel? Another thing I would like to know is if there is a tool required to remove a Miculek comp or some trick to doing this?

Thanks,

AL

Put a little Kroil (the miracle drug), on it and you should be able to work it off by hand. At least mine did. Take the setscrews completely out and make sure the bolt carrier is removed. The gas tube will probably come out still connected to the gas block.
Good luck, Dale McClure.

Oh, I thought you said "Gas Block". I have no experience with the Miculek comp. My rifle is a LR .260.

Mic comp just unscrews.  Loosen the washer that is holding it tight first (act like you are tightenning the lock washer on to the bbl- this will move it away from the comp).  Once you loosen the lock washer, then you can unscrew the Mic comp.

Easy as pie.

I will look closer but there doesnt seem to be a exposed washer on this one. It was installed by DPMS if it makes a differance.

I just looked and it seems there must be a crush washer under the comp like its recessed under the comp between the barrel ill take a picand post. It really is a fantastic fit and finish on this rifle.

Mine looks different.  I have a washer on the bbl side of it.  I used a piece of metal that was rubber coated, but wood would work too.

I cant grab the camera right now to take a picture. I'll try sometime tomorrow.

I got the comp off with a little heat from a heat gun and rubber covered plier handle. There was no crush washer but alot of locktite. The barrel to comp fit leaves a gap caused from a beveled crown on the barrel and the comp is flat. That leaves a gap for carbon to build up. I dont know if time would degrade accuracy, but it seems like a once a year removal and cleaning is in order for the comp. I have about 300 rounds out of this barrel right now and it was pretty cruddy.I have found these rifles to be very easy work on after you do it once. I was over thinking alot of it but I wanted to be carefull not to screw up the parts I want to sell.
