I went to the range yesterday to fire off some factory 150gr remington core lokt ammo. I bought it just to help break in the gun and so I keep the brass. Factory Remington 150gr core lokt DPMS LR-308B 2,678 2,647 2,656 2,647 2,677 2,625 It actually was much faster than what I was expecting out of an 18" barrel. I don't know what all this means, but I thought there might be someone out there wondering about the same thing. |
Need to convert fps to mph first. 2650fps=1806mph (1 fps= ~.6818mph) So Mach 2.37 @sea level. |

Here are some of my reloads out of my AP 4 LR.308 (16" barrel) Hornady 168gr A-max 44.5gr of varget = 2515fps Hornady 150gr FMJ 46gr of varget = 2658fps Hornady 168gr A-max 45gr of IMR 4895=2505fps Hornady 150gr FMJ 47gr of IMR 4895=2690fps Sierra MK 168gr 45.5gr of varget =2650fps (seemed a little hot!) Of course start out on the low end and work your way up if reloading, even though 46 gr of varget with a 168gr SMK was listed as max,I don't plan on loading 45.5gr of varget for my AP 4anymore it seemed too hot and 44.5gr seems to give me decent velocity and great accuracy. |

Very informative for me thanks. I am waiting for my 308B. I have starting loads ready in 150smk,150hornady interlock,165hornady interlock, and 165nosler ballistic tip. Remington ammo is usually conservative.I was hoping for approx 2750fps but it does not look like i will make that. As long as accuracy is good I will be happy. How did the Rem ammo shoot for groups? | My 308B is completely stock. No compensator and the remington factory 150gr core lokt ammo sucks for accuracy. I've loaded some 168gr matchkings over varget and gotten a ragged hole at 100 though with 10 rounds just shooting for fun not letting everything cool between shots. |
