Hello,

Just wanted to give an addition to your list of Armalite compatible lowers.

What I have is a CNCed 7075 billet lower. It is made by a company called Aircraft Armament. Some of the lowers have cuts on the front take down pin area to allow a "belt fed upper". (mines not one of them)

Here are some pics! (wish I was better with a camera)

Enjoy. Thanks for the great knowledge based thread!

It would be very helpful to have the tourqe specs question there
I got this off the Armalite website since I wasn't able to find it here in the FAQ

10-22.  QUESTION:  What are the torques on an AR-10 barrel nut and the gas keys?

ANSWER:  At the factory, the barrel nut is torqued by feel.  But, studies have shown the torque for the M15 should be 35 - 80 FOOT lbs. and for the AR-10 45 - 90 FOOT lbs.  The torque for the gas keys for both the M-15 and AR-10 should be approximately 55 INCH lbs.

Did I miss the FAQ entry about the AR-10 vs AR-10(T) ejection port door retaining rod and how you need the AR-10(T) version if you have a FF handguard?

It'd also be nice to see info about the uppers with forward assist collected here.

I just have to question a few entries in your guide,  you say:

KAC is KAC, and DPMS is based off of it.

DPMS- based off the KAC- not chromelined and triggers usually suck. Some people love them and have gotten a good gun. Some have had to get a new barrel and work the triggers.

The only thing in common with the KAC and the DPMS is the original AR10 mag pattern and maybe the upper receiver thread.

Actually the armalite is closer to a KAC as the uppers interchange (small varience in pin size) Armalite even made upper receivers to fit KAC SR25 lowers, the carriers and bolts interchange as do other parts, the only incompatability is the mag well pattern,

Also not listed is the Larue OSR which is compatable with the SR25 and therefore the AR10 with some minor pin dia changes.
also are you sure the LWRC REPR is totally proprietry as it looks to be the same format as the Larue and SR25

None of this is a critisism of you FAQ, just a second opinion

this gloss over was done so I wouldn't get bogged down with details of non-ar 10s. I don't want someone to start changing parts because the faq said it could be done

The only reason it was mentioned because at the time, parts were hard to find and there was some mixing going on.  I didn't want this to be a thread where we discuss how to swap parts, just general guidlines,

If you want to fill in the blanks respond and I will cut n paste. Im deployed and dont have any reference materials

So according to this, if I were to get the Remington R25 which is basically a DPMS rifle the only uppers I could use to change stuff around with would be DPMS and Knights, correct?  A store near me has the Remington version and I'm considering it as an easy way in on the AR10 type.  Would this be a good idea or would I just be better off building from an Aero and going the Armalite compatible route?

Does the NY ban specifically ban the ArmaLite?  If not, why spend extra money for the Aero?

If you read about 2 posts up, the Knights and DPMS uppers are not interchangeable.

Don't do all the mix and try to match stuff, pick one brand of .308 AR(whichever brand that is) and stick with it for uppers, etc.

And the DPMS/Remington is a .308 AR, not an AR10 type.

If it's a Colt, it's a copy of an original ArmaLite.

I am not LARRYG36.

I wouldn't mix and match either.. doesn't seem to be a standardization in the AR10/AR 308 world like it is in the AR-15.

As for the ejection port retaining rod...I believe the AR10(T) upper receiver version rod, which is sligtly longer, is only needed with the Armalite FF handguard.  I recently installed a PRI GEN 3 FF handguard forend and the AR-10(T) rod was too long by about an 1/8". Thinking the rod was needed for all FF forends was the reason I bought it to begin with. What began to happen was the barrel nut was catching and beginning to bend the rod as it got towards the end of the threads.  I had to cut, smooth and refinish the rod end in order to continue the torqueing process without completely destroying the rod in the process, or at least making an ugly bend out of it.  Thank god I caught it just as it started to flex, or bend upwards.  I was able to straighten it back out in my vise and it functions and looks like nothing happenned.  I would like some formal clarity from Armalite on this part myself for future projects...

I can confirm that is true. Also LMT's 308 MRP uses the same bolt catch as KAC.

I read through and saw that the DPMS/Armalite patterns have two different threads for the barrel nut, but does this also mean an AR10 barrel (i.e. Noveske) won't work with a stripped DPMS upper? Different barrel extension lengths too?

Sorry if this is a case of herp derp, I don't know a lot about the AR10.

Not all parts are interchangeable with different AR10, SR-25, or 308 AR variant.

The KAC SR-25, LMT MWS, and LaRue OBR are suppose to have interchangeable upper/lowers.
I believe, but not sure, the KAC SR-25, and LMT MWS BCG is swappable.

AR10's I am not as familiar with on who can use what.  I'm sure if you google it you can find info on it.

The Armalite and DPMS extensions are very close in their sizes and MAY be interchangable most of the time. The problem may arrise where the DPMS does not have the extended feedramps and the bullet tips may catch on it if it is put in an Armalite upper which has the "M4" style cuts. There is a lot of disagreement on mixing parts from manufacturers. Some say yes some say no. Proceed at your own comfort level.

Armalite uppers will fit KAC,Larue, and LMT lowers with a few modifications.I have an 762 OBR lower with an Amalite upper on it.The new AR10A uppers should work with less modifications since they will take PMAGS. I recently bought a stripped AR10A lower and the spare upper receiver I modded for the LT lower fits fine with no play.My $0.02.

No,it wont drop in. I bought 2 used non-FA upper receivers. One had the outside cut/clearance for the bolt stop, one didn't. I machined the one that didn't. I machined the mag stops out with 5/16" ball end mill. As far as the pins,I measured the difference in the two and drilled them out by hand. I know I used a letter drill bit but can't remember which one. It's been a while since I posted pics, but I will try.

762SASS has them for $227 + sh. He also has blem AR10A stripped upper receivers which would be a lot easier to fit than what I did.

Well at the time,I couldn't get/afford what I wanted,a pmag based 308 with an Armalite style upper. So, I did it myself. Now that the AR10A is here,I'll be building one. And I'll have an "AR10".

I got my AR-10B two weeks ago, and it's a nice rifle. This thread especially has been helpful with general knowledge and some specifics that I was looking for. The one thing I'd like to see in an AR10 sticky is a quick breakdown of the model numbers. I got in a bit of a hurry, got distracted, my shoelace was untied, and the sun was in my eyes (and other excuses still under development)  when I ordered mine from Bud's, and was expecting an AR-10A... The 10B is a great rifle and all, but all my AR-15's run on Magpul, and I wanted the big AR to do so as well. I know of one other individual who was expecting a 10A and got a 10B due to model number contusion, so it's not just me and the voices.

On the ArmaLite site, the item page for my rifle is titled "AR-10A4 RIFLE 7.62 W F/A BLACK" and the item number is 10A4BF.  It says it comes with a 10 and a 20 round magazine. This is my AR10B. If it had mentioned that it is a 10B on that page, I would have known.

On their 'New AR10A' page they only list the SASS and a Carbine; apparently that's the only 10A's they have so far. But then, the website is a little funny, I ordered a bayonette lug at the same time, and the ONLY place I can find it is at the 'Newly Instock' link. Not under 'bayonets and knives', not under 'uppers and parts', but just under 'newly instock'. I just figured they hadn't updated the 'New AR10A' pages when I found the AR10A4BF that I was after. Assume, what's that spell??

If you read the Armalite 'Key Characteristics' page you will find that the A's above refer to A4, not to 10A, and the item number for an AR10A would be A10A4BF, that's an AR-10A. It's not too confusing if you look at their part numbers, but if you read about the new AR10A and don't check out the differences you can make a mistake. I saw the 'Key Characteristics' page, but just glanced at it; "Length, caliber, weight... ya, ya, it's the same as a B except for the magazine! I know!" and off I went looking for the model number again.

I was mad as aitch Eee double hockey sticks at first, but I've gotten over it. I'll be putting the dremel to my new M14 magazines this weekend, and have about a hundred rounds through the big AR. It certainly smashes what you point it at! Accurate, mighty, and authentic as they come.

The point to all this mess isn't that I want something from ArmaLite, or that I want sympathy, or that I want to rain on anyone or blame anyone but myself. I'd just like it if nobody else gets a big suprise when their rifle arrives. There's other dummies in the world, it's not just me! A little extra clarity on the part/model numbers could save some folks some greif.

On our website it has a separate section for AR-10A rifles and AR-10B rifles.

Yes sometimes it's hard to find some items on our website but if you put the key word "bayonet" into the search section it would have taken you to it and anything else associated with that word.

As stated, the AR-10A rifles and AR-10B rifles have their own section on our website.

I asked this in my other post, but just from talking to guys in the industry, did Armalite just drop a bunch of 2014 production guns into the distro stream. Mainly the model A ar10T in 20"? I've seen a bunch of these make debuts around the net very recently on some sites that didn't have proper info on them before or didn't have them at all. It was my understanding that these were limited release with the A, but maybe AR is making them a full time product now as evidenced by armalite site update and new availability of the product on big name gun retailers like Buds and CtD?

Untacked, marked "do not archive", and link added to the "caliber specific FAQ" thread tacked at the top of the forum.
Daddy loves you. Now go away.

Why is the Armalite AR10 Defensive Sporting rifle so much less expensive than the AR10A4CBF carbine? They seem to be basically the same rifle except for the trigger and maybe the barrel. Almost 600.00 difference.

ArmaLite is not on the board anymore.

It seems the new owners are fuckheads but I ain't selling any of my AR10s because of it.

I have no idea why they are less expensive.
If it's a Colt, it's a copy of an original ArmaLite.

I am not LARRYG36.

Racing is life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting.

If your AR10 is marked Geneseo, IL, it's still an AR10 no matter what some people say.

LarryG...long time no hear. Glad you're still aboard. Yeah, I see that there's no Armalite banner flying anywhere, just came to that same conclusion.
Do you have any of the new A models? If you're like me, you're all "mag'd" up so no real need.
Thanks.
