How many rounds have people fired from their LR-308 before any parts breakage issues? I am curious because I am looking into buying one of these rifles and would like to know how well they hold up to a decently high volume of shooting. I tried the search and went through the AR Variants section but could find nothing.

I would imagine if you had the money to wear one of these out (308 ammo prices) then you could afford a new one.

This is a good point.

In past threads I remember one guy had over 2,000 and that is the highest round count i have noticed on the forum.  Mine has less then 500. The only wear I am seeing is on the cam pin,  Idon't know if it will ever be an issue though.  I don't have any spare parts for it because no weak link has actually been identified. Someday I'll get a spare bolt.

I beive it to be a good platform.  I certainly enjoy mine and am pleased with it's reliability.

My AP4 LR308 has a 3800 rd count on it and it is over 2 years old. Zero malfunctions shooting 800rds in one afternoon. The rifle has had no malfunctions in any of the 3800rds. I shoot LC, Argentine for Assie, IMI, Privi, Winchester WB, Federal Match, TAP, BH, and Winchester Supreme G3. I keep the rifle dripping with lube either FP10 or Slip 2000. I have replaced the extractor spring at rd # 1500 and 3000. It sold me on DPMS for 308s enough to buy a LR308 24" fluted with A3 upper upgrade from RGuns. That rifle has just under 600rds through it but as it is really more of a tack driver it only sees the best ammo. I have put 5rds through a .58" hole at 100yrds and I'm a poser. It has the CMC trigger, PRS stock, SS109 scope in Burris rings, and a Harris 6"-9" bipod.I have 8 of their 19rd mags and none have had any of the problems that some have mentioned on this forum. If I s#@t dollars I'd get a TAC20 as well.

What is the extractor spring, regular USGI or only from DPMS?  Also, what does the wear on your cam pin look like?

Funny the cam pin wear on the AP4 is very light with all those rounds. The wear on the 24" LR308 cam pin is already noticable at 600rds, go figure. I shot DPMS a pic of the wear patterns and they said nothing to worry about. I did find a slightly sharp edge on the BC cam pin slot which I blended with a dremel so I think that was causing the wear. The extractor spring are availible from DPMS I bought 10 of them, they're cheap. They are of a double coil type and VERY strong.

i broke a bolt catch at about 500rds.  i believe it was because everything was single shot using a bobsled.  i think the first major part to go will be the barrel.  once mine will no longer shoot moa im replacing it, id say its at half its life right now.  probably replace gas rings at the same time as well.

Dunno, but I am fairly certain that 1000 rounds is kind of a short life you are expecting there. I suspect that 10,000 rounds is more like it.

I'd say 6k rds would be no problem but you'll know when the accuracy starts to fall off. .308/7.62 doesn't burn out barrels like 5.56/.223 does. Throat erosion is the first thing that shows up in a shot out barrel. Excessive cleaning will wear out a barrel. Rapid fire accelerates barrel wear. I would hope for at least 6k-8k rds before accuracy falls off enough to really bother you. Then the great thing about the AR platform comes into play when you install a Krieger or Douglas barrel.

Thanks for the quick replies by all. I have been trying to do research to decide which 308 AR to purchase and have heard negative things on several boards about DPMS quality. I wanted to hear from actual owners of the LR-308 rifles to see how well they are holding up because we all know how accurate information found on the Internet is right

I find there is a lot of brand bashing on all the forums including this one from time to time. Take a look at the number of rifles sold and then look at the number of complaints. For how many .308s DPMS has put out the door the complaint ratio is down there. I have the AP4 and the LR308 both have been flawless. I will post when I break something not to bitch but to make people aware of what to expect. Like someone else said the only way for a rifle not to wear out is to keep it in the safe. I buy and enjoy shooting all of my firearms. If one breaks it goes back to the manufacture for repair while I shoot the rest. ALL FIREARMS WILL WEAR OUT JUST LIKE CARS. ALL FIREARMS WILL BREAK SOMETHING AT SOME POINT. I don't know of any firearm that can last forever.
